Wiring schematic and advice needed for tow package.

We have a few things going on with my 97 F 150 and my new late model camper.
1. I installed a Draw-Tite electronic brake controller and wiring harness per their instructions.
2. Replaced the feed wires to the camper brakes.
3. Fixed some grounds on camper.

Problems:
1. Plug the 7 point into the truck – hubs on camper move freely..
2. Start engine – hubs lock up and electrical (lights, blinkers, etc.) on camper do not work.

Any advice or diagrams would help. Please email me at steven-e-planchon@att.net

Thanks,
Steve and crew trying to get this thing fixed for the NHIS races this weekend.

Did you contact Draw-Tite?

Ken,

I didn’t need to call Draw – Tite because it was an issue of assuming that the receptacle on the truck was wired the same as the plug on the camper. It actually got worse; the camper plug wasn’t wired the same as what the schematic showed which, didn’t match the truck receptacle either. Once we traced the wires back to the camper’s source we found that the camper’s brakes were going to the positive on the truck and the positive was going to the brakes. The turn signals were also switched. Once we rearranged the wires in the plug everything worked.

Thanks for taking care of this site. It is very helpful

Steve
