Looking for Camelina seed

Would anyone on the forum who buys camelina seed in bulk be willing to sell me about 1/2 LB. of seed to experiment with before I commit to buying it in bulk? I am interested in camelina as an oil crop for homebrew biodiesel. I can't find it locally in small quantities. Naturally, I'll pay for postage and the seed. You can PM me if you think you might be able to help me out. Have a great day and thanks for your assist on this. :-X25

WOW! No replies? This must be some valuble stuff. You would think this was gold or something. At this point I would settle for a dead weed with 5 or 6 seeds hanging on for dear life! :-banghead

Don
I remember you planted some acerage in Camelina as an experiment. I also remember you did not get as good a yield as you would get with Canola.

I do not remember if you addressed the cost per acre of raising the Camelina vs the cost of raising Canola.

Do you have thos numbers available?

fabmandelux 03-18-2009 03:27 PM

Yes. The cost of growing was almost the same between both crops. The yeald with Camelina was half of what we got with Canola. Canola producton was 4,500 lbs/acr. Camelina was 2,100 lb/ac. My neighbor tried a test plot also, and got the same results.

I don't know what all you did to the two crops, insecticide, fertilizer, etc, but it sure sounds like canola is a better crop for you.
I wonder if Camelina might not come out on top under different climatic conditions, it would be interesting to find out.

The inputs were all the same. Several farms tried it here and all had about the same yeald.
