Stock Tires
 

I am looking for new tires for my 04 f150. Ive searched the web but I cant find what tires come new with an 04 xlt f150. Are they the Hanook ones? Does anyone know if I can get a bigger size tire to fill in the large space? I dont have any mods to the truck. Thanks guys.

yes you can get larger than stock.... but sorry i cannot tell you what the largest size would fit..... as for tires... i would just get some that you like, and suits your needs... mud, snow, all terrain, etc. then you can get a much better tire in the end.

Hankook, Pirelli, BF Goodrich, General all come standard. If you want a size somewhat bigger but do not want to recalibrate your speedometer, I would go with a 265/70/17.

Shouldnt the tire store recalibrate my speedometer? I was thinking P255/65R-17.

No. You need to get something like a superlift tru-speed or an edge allows you to adjust for larger tires. And hoestly, it wont be that far off. I cant recall what size came on my stock but it was around that size I think.

Check out your local dealer. They may have some take-offs cheap.

Given the choice, you don't really want stock tires anyway. Dealers put on the lousiest tires they can find. Go for a high quality name brand like goodyear, BFG, cooper... The Hankooks that came with my 07 are a joke, as far as I'm concerned they came worn out when they were new.

If you did not buy your truck new and want to find out which tire size was installed from the factory, look at the spare because I would care to guess that it is original. The sticker inside the driver door jamb shows the tire size that came from the factory doesn't it?

Do yourself a favor and spend a little extra and get the GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armor. I went through two sets of BFG Longtrails, nice tires, but the GoodYear's are very much above the BFG's.

That was the size on my truck and I went with the FX4 rims with goodyear silent armour 275/65/18. I love the tires and the rims. I have pics in my gallery if you want to look.

235/17 for the tire and
17 X 7 for rim i believe.

Im looking for any tires that would fit on my rims right now but would fill in the large gap between the tire and the body plus tires that a wider then the ones I have one now, Id love to but cant afford FX4 rims at the moment.

I figured but I might be wrong that 255/65 17 is the biggest I can go. Is this correct? Again, thanks for the help.

I had 255 70 17's stock and changed to these in 275 70 17's.

The 255/65/17 is actually shorter (smaller diameter) than the 235/75/17. These specs. came from http://www.gordon-glasgow.org/tirecalc.html

Going (up in height) to a 265/70/17 is actually less of a change in height than going (down in height) to a 255/65/17 (+ .73" for the 265, - .83" for the 255).
The 265/70/17 will only change your speedometer reading by about 1 1/2 mph @ 70mph. BTW if you go with a tire that you feel will warrant a recalibration of your speedo, your dealer can do it for you. I was quoted a price of $40 when I asked.

lastoh, those look great, did you have to recalibrate your speedo? is your truck a 4x4? (i know its on your sig but i remember someone with a black truck on here buying a 4x4 sticker)

Is it possible for me to use any of these tire sizes you mentioned:
255/65/17
235/75/17
265/70/17
275/70/17 with my current 235/70/17(stock I now believe) tires? Will they fit on my rim? Also my truck is a 4x2. When I plug my numbers in an online calculator on what I can put on my rim its either: P255/70R-17 or P255/65R17. The first size makes sense but this second one quoted is my "optimal" size but its height is shorter

FS, so any change in the tire side warrants a recalibration? Im glad to see that its not expensive
