Mpg

Can I expect to get 20+ highway miles out of the 6.0 like the 7.3s state?

Maxium4x4 07-08-2007 09:00 PM

Ummm.....no and neither did my 7.3L

duffman77 07-08-2007 09:15 PM

Expect.... No
Is it possible... Yes

Some people have had good luck with their MPGs and others just cant do it.
If you drive the right speed and you have a favourable configuration and do the right modifications it is possible to be around 20. I am in that ballpark but I have a 2wd with 6 speed. I have tracked all my fuel usage in a spreadsheet that I keep in my gallery if you care to look.

20 plus is possible

I have an '04 Excursion 2wd with 50,000mile on it. Just made a run from Washington state to Kansas and back, put 4000 miles on my rig in one week. Average mpg for trip was just over 20mpg. I get 20 pretty consistantly and on this trip was keeping at speed limits of 65 to 75 all the way.

Good luck

I'm with Maximum4x4. My 6.0 rarely gets 20mpg and my 7.3 never got 20mpg. I've been getting a consistent 18 mpg on the highway, but that's with a larger set of tires and rims. I could hit 20 with the stock tires and driving 70mph.

satcom40 07-09-2007 06:27 AM

I wish I could get 20 but only get 16 running stock tune.

Superdudey 07-09-2007 06:51 AM

15mpg here. i had 19 once.

BGMSPD 07-09-2007 08:57 AM

18 mpg stock mostly stop and go traffic with truck unloaded. Once i picked up the SCT and Matt took care of me 15.5 mpg (hard to not use all that power now that it's there)

I can and have gotten over 20 mpg if the conditions are right, no headwinds, not really hilly, keep it 65 or under. Normally I'm right around 19 on the highway though. Same as my old 7.3.

03 F250 cc 4x4 bone stock

If I drive 64, I get 20 Highway
If I drive 58, I get 22 Highway

But who can drive 64 or below? Most of the open highways here in central CA the limit is 65, and even the big rigs go 66-69.

dc3655 07-10-2007 08:40 PM

Loubell, the fact that you know what fuel mileage you get at 58 or 64 mph is simply amazing!! I had a hard time limiting myself to 70mph for a whole roadtrip to get my 20.6 mpg. My wife won't let me do that again!! Of course, now with my larger tires and rims, I struggle to get 18 mpg doing 75mph on the highway.

11 in town, stop and go traffic. 16 average on highways. best I ever got was 22 but that was on a long downhill run coming home from Vegas.
