what would cause high oil pressure

what do you mean by high oil presure? Too high? REgular pressure? I dont think you can have too high oil pressure, you usually lose oil pressure when things go bad.

I have heard that too high pressure can wash the bearings, but unless you have some aftermarket high pressure pump, it wont just happen. You can run thicker oil to increase your pressure a little bit. Maybe you have gear oil instead of motor oil in the block.

Do you have the factory guages? The factory guages are notorious for being inaccurate. Get a good aftermarket guage so you can verify that the oil pressure is actually high and not just a false reading.
