Rear window seal.
Hello all,
I have a 2000 f-150 ext-cab lariat. I have a sliding rear window with water coming into the cab around the seal. I can visually see that the seal is not seated properly. My ?? is this. Is changing the seal somthing that I want to, or can do on a saturday afternoon ,with no specialty tool needed? Am i better off just taking it somewhere and paying to have it fixed? anyone know what i can expect to pay? (I'm talking about the seal that goes around the entire rear window assembly under the plastic trim) Thanks. |
I had this same problem on my 99 and took it to the body shop to have a new seal put in it and it cost less than $100.

Thank you very much, sounds like a deal to me.

common problem to leak. i bought a 12 ounce black RTV tube at the hardware store, filled the crack in solid between the plastic trim and the roof panel. NEVER leak again.
|
Black RTV silicone here as well!!! Many of these leaks come from the third brake light, I would also caulk around the edge of the light!
|
The origional owner of my truck took it to the dealership and replaced the whole rear window frame. Well...It still leaks today when I wash it.
RTV is next on my list :-X22 |
Anybody know what comes with the replacement seal kit (3L3Z-1542052-AA) for TSB 04-2-2, leaking rear window? Is it the seal around the whole unit or just the slide tracks that hold the movable section?
Thanks. |
i replaced my own seal with butyl rope from AZ for about 8 bucks. gotta remove the headliner, side panels around windows, and back seat. then remove 2 dozen nuts and cut old seal to loosen it. razor blade off the old seal and clean up both surfaces. laid down the butyl. with help, i placed the window back in and EVENLY tightened it back down. while i had the beauty trim off i painted it,too.

The MSRP is $43.30. You might contact him and ask what the kit contains. ftepartsguy is Ed Olson @ Parr Ford in Bremerton, WA. btw: Type Ford part numbers into websites without the hyphens, otherwise you'll get this: No parts found. |
Rear window seal
Tanks for da info.

The back window glass kit is the seals between the panes of glass. It won't fix the leak you're talking about here. Ford used to make a rubber seal to fix the leaks caused by cracked/broken window frames, but they were crap. I'm not sure if you can even buy it any more. Ford also sells a "Foam seal" for the back glass but all it is is a butyl seal with a foam core. Go to the local parts store and get a roll of butyl tape and a tube of black RTV. Seal the frame to the cab with the butyl and seal the cracks with the silicon.

i had the same problem on my 99. i ended up just replacing the window (mt slider latch was broken) and put in a solid. i used silicone to seal the window from the inside and really gooped up the new window before installing.
