Diffferences in clutches

I have a 1995 ford f150 auto and a 1988 f150 with a m50d that im planning on putting into the 95. While i do the swap, im going to put in a new clutch and slave cylinder. The part numbers are different on the 1992 and up models. So, im wondering if i need to get a 1988 clutch or 1995 clutch. Does anybody know what the difference is?

I'd go with the '88 clutch, but make sure it will bolt up with the flywheel. The trans has more to do with the needs of the clutch then the engine. As long as the engine isn't extremely more powerful than the '88 and you're set. Id say within 40hp and there shouldn't be any slippage issues. Use the '88 parts from the flywheel back though.

Well, I actually just finished the project. And after talking to a couple of shops, i went with all 1995 parts. (clutch, slave, and master cylinder) Both motors are 302's and the flywheel and m5od werent changed from 1988 to 1996.(at least according to the ford dealership). I couldnt find a difinitive answer in the differences in the clutch system, but all of the new (1995) parts were identical on the outside to the ones off the 1988, except the clutch master cylinders had some slight differences. i dont know if there are any internal differences or not, but surely there is something since the part numbers are different. Anyway, after about 100 miles or so everything seems to be working flawlessly.

Nice, I'd have thought something had changed over those years, which was the reason for the posting the way that I did. Just seemed like the safe rout.
