Weird Braking Noise

Hey everybody im new here so work with me!!! I've got an 2005 ranger 4x4 edge. I had a little off roading adventure the other day and now i seem to have a brake problem. At first it seemed to be suspension but i noticed like the steering had tighted up almost like it was pulling against me when i turned, also there was a small vibration. So i live on a dirt road and once i was in the dirt i slammed on the brakes at about 10 mph there was a load pop from the left wheel area and the steering freed back up. I then turned around and rode around tryin to see what happened there was still a vibration so i got back in the dirt and slammed the brakes again the rears will lock up but the front almost sounds like theres a loud clank clank clank as long as i hold the brakes, it also shakes the truck. normal braking is fine though. Can someone please help me before something more serious happens!!!

Hey Redrangeredge. Welcome to FTE!!!! Hang tight and more guys and gurls will chime in. Did your stiff stearing feel like it was still in 4WD? The transfer case is on the left side of the truck and sound can travel allong the drivetrain and reverberate in the engine compartment(just a thought really). Try switching in and out of 4WD a couple of times to see how it's working. No hub locks, so that's not an issue. Is the vibration only when you turn? If normal braking is ok, you'll have to pull the front wheels and do a visual inspection.

Let us know what you find

Fred

thanks ive tried switchin in and out of 4 high and low, but i think the vibration is a rear wheel out of balance! if i get on the brakes hard like i said the noise and the pedal jumps along with the rest! thanks again for the info
