Window Tint
 

I want to have the front door windows tinted to match the rear door and rear side windows.

What percentage tint do I ask for? Also, is that percentage legal on the front door windows?

In Texas 35% is allowed and to match the rear I put 25% on. Here I have to watch where I take it to get instpected but that is not a problem for me. They really don't mess with tint tickets, it just gives them a reason to pull you over.

On my tahoe i had a shop that did a lot of tinting match the back factory tint and tehy said they used 23% i believe? It was a weird number but it was a DEAD NUTS match!

I just had 35% put on the front door windows of my Excursion. 20% would have been an almost perfect match to the rear windows. In New York State, any tint other than factory (which is around 75-85%) is illegal on the front door windows. Every state is different, you'll have to check your state's laws. 35% will still get me a ticket, but not likely if I follow the rest of the traffic laws.

I like the looks of the 20% better, but it is just to hard to see out of at night. I found myself rolling the window down on my '91 F-150 to make left hand turns at night when I thought they might be pedestrians around. And forget about backing up a trailer with the windows up. But it did look nice...I must be getting old.

I had 20% put on my Front Doors. I tried to go the EBay route, but the tint I received was creased and the seller (EBay user name EliteTint) wanted me to pay another $12 for another piece. So I went and had it done by a prosseional. I could not be happier. I have no problem seeing out of my windows at night.

in cali you can not tint the front windows. if it came from the factory with it then they sometimes allow it.

my neighbor who is a CHP told me that if you have a doctors note that says your eyes are sensitive to light, you can have your windows tinted in CA. My wife is in the process of setting up an appt!

if you do that you must carry the perscription with the vehicle at all times and they probbly will still right the fix it ticket and then you will have to show the judge and prove it to him. a friend did that about five years ago and the judge said tuff you must remove the tint. and pay the fine. he did and had them retinted, and still gets messed with. good luck.

In ohio they changed the laws about 3 years ago.
when you read the tint law for ohio you have to remember that there numbers are backwards.
the law now is 50% front windows, anything on rear sides and back, and 70% on windshield.

if you read the law it says 30% on windshield but that is blocked light not VLT like tint is measured in. another thing its measured NET so its tint + glass. if your windows are polarized this can put you over.

You may also check with your local DMV office. They could tell you as well.

The Excursion is considered a MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle). Here in Florida the only ones you really have to be concerned about are the FRONT windows. The rear can be tinted to 6% VLT!!! That's pretty much midnight inside.

I am running double tint on all rear windows and a slightly darker than legal tint on the driver and passenger window. They do NOT match with the rear, but I had never any trouble with the law either.

At least in our area the law enforcement is more focused on passenger vehicles with too dark tinted windows (such as souped up rice-burners or Stangs)...
