CCV mod, smoke out the hose at idle?
I recently done the CCV mod and I noticed when I go home after about a 20 minute drive that there was smoke coming out at idle, enough smoke that I looked under there to make sure something wasn't hot or on fire. Is this normal or do you think it was just because of the hose being all new and burning off something?

Yes, i would say that is pretty normal...just normal engine blow by...
|
I have mine exiting right under the bumper where you could mount a ball, and I've had a lady tell me I might be on fire LOL. It's normal.....

An just think all that oily smoke was going in your i/c all the time ,,,,That can't be good.
|
Your right- over time that gunk builds up in your IC, and while it's not a whole lot, I'd rather not have any of it. If anyone is overly concerned with just letting the vapors go into the atmosphere, you can always weld a pipe at a steep angle jutting inside the exhaust pipe and it'll act like a venturi and suck the vapors out and somewhat burn them off.

I just absolutely love to hear these comments, because I actually don't get hardly any smoke at all from my hose, which leads me to believe that I have very little blowby.
|
That's true Pete- I wonder how much "excess" I might have....
|
mines constant but the smoke looks pretty thin.

i get a decent amount out of my wifes excursion, hope to do my truck this weekend.

I get a little puff after startup(amount of time varies) and haven't noticed it after that.

So I have a steady stream of vapor that really stinks. Not really smoke but it flows. That is why the stock system is plumbed into the intake to keep folks happy. The IH trucks simply dump it via a tube similar to the CCV mod. If there is not a steady stream from the CCV mod, there may be a clog somewhere. Check it out. The warmer it is outside, the stinkier it is. Finally, there is some argument over whether the venturi designs work and whether the exhaust pressure overcomes this. I elected to vent it to the atmosphere where I know it escapes and I can look at it. Mine dumps right in front of the driver side rear axle. |

I agree, there always should be fumes emitting from the end of the hose or there might be something wrong. |
You do not want the hose trapped. I remember reading a post here of someone driving in cold weather had it freeze up with moisture and caused the pressure in the crank case to build up and start blowing out oil.

I had the same thing .. got tired of the black on the undercarriage / shocks , etc .. so I tapped into the exhaust .. works great !
