5spd. torqueshift automatic
How does the 5spd. torqueshift automatic with tow/haul mode perform on steep downhill grades without an exhaust brake? Always a concern when towing heavy 5th wheels.

From what I've read on here, one a word - "GREAT". I'll be letting you know...leaving Monday AM for a X-Country trip with my 5th wheel in tow. MAryland - Texas - San Diago - Seattle - BC and home. I think I'll be hitting a few mountain passes....

Good luck, have a great time. Let me know how it does, up and down hills.

I use mine alot up here. You'll find you can set it by tapping the break pedal some times and other times you will have to give it more pressure on the pedal to ensure it drops down one more gear. I tow a few trailers over 10-13K and I have some pretty long passes to go down and never had to utilize my breaks once I get it set proper.

It works like a champ. You won't be disappointed.

It still amazes me how integrated the the tow command, truck brakes and transmission are.
Light pressure on the brake pedal will see the trans downshift and begin engine braking. On a grade, it will sense no speed reduction (or an increase?) and then go down an additional gear. Who ever came up with this little nugget deserves a huge bonus. |
