1993 Coolant Temp Sensor

I have a 1993 F-150 Ext. Cab, 4wd, 351W.

The temp guage shows very cool. It never makes it to the N in "Normal". I had replace the T-Stat, and a temp sensor, but didn't make any difference. The sensor I had replaced is in the center of the intake, on the drivers side of the intake runners. Are there any other temp sensors? And also, when I had taken that sensor out, there was no coolant visible, it was an air space, and there was some "blackish gunk" on the tip of the sensor? Any clues or suggestions?

Thanks

Have you ran some stop leak in it before? Sounds like your your not getting water flow to sender.

I think you changed your ACT sensor.......see if this helps

Good Luck

Does anyone know if there is a seperate sensor for the gauge only? I did accidently change the act sensor, but had corrected it. The gauge still reads just at the first line before the N in normal, barely make it into the normal operating range.

there is a separate sensor for the guage only. it will have only one wire to push on it. the other ECT will be a 2 wire.

Sounds like you got the right one.
Here is a photo of a 5.0 but yours should be in the same places.

Where would the other sensor be located?

Look at the photo above, the one you want is the "TEMP SENDER".

my engine is a different design than your picture. I'll get a photo posted in a few mins

Here is a link to a diagram of a 1993 5.8 showing the TEMP SENDER for the gauge.

That is the same as the photo posted above.
The one you noted as the ACT is the ACT sensor.
The one you noted as ECT is the ECT sensor for the Computer, nothing to do with the gauge.

The TEMP sender is at the "o" in sensor of "ACT Sensor".

A link to your photo edited for the Temp Sender.

I found it. Thank you. The problem is taht the post of the sensor was corroded, causing a bad connection. I had cleaned it, and the gauge started reading more normal. If it seems to hang low, I'll just replace it. It was quite bad for the corrosion.

Thanks, everyone!
