50 series muffler
 

looking at getting a 50 series flowmaster muffler for my 07 v6. will this muffler clamp right on to the exhaust pipe.? or am i going to have a muffler shop do it.?

im hoping i can cut the old muffler off and clamp this one on.

anyone know? cause i would much rather buy a muffler and do it myself than pay some muffler shop.

You are looking for direct replacement for your truck 50 series ? Your factory muffler is a lot longer. You will have to add a piece of pipe to make up the difference. I had a magna flow installed on mine. Shop added stainless piece of pipe and welded muffler in for 70.00. Well worth it to me .I think buy the time you get done paying for the extra piece of pipe flared on both ends and clamps crawling under truck , you probably not saving anything. A lot of us like working on our trucks for fun but this is a low on the fun factor. You have a 07 I wouldn’t want a bunch of clamps holding the pipe and muffler. Like they say ,"anything can be done just some do better than others". BWEP

Yeah true very true im sure if i had all the tools and equipment garage and experience i would of done my dual exhaust myself but got a pro muffler shop to do it im sure it wouldnt cost a lot to get it put in

I think it should clamp into the exhaust pipe depending on how big the inlet is on the muffler and outlet my guess

I ran into the same issue about muffler size with my 03. The cost was minimal at the muffler shop.

Yeah well it should be your best bet unless your a do it yourselfer and prefer that check out the exhaust forum too lots of informative people there that just talk about exhaust systems

i've put a 50 series on a '05 scab 4.6,,,i took it back off and put the managnaflow back on,,,the FM50 was TOO quiet. Pls remember you got 2 cats on both sides that baffles the noise, i was really suprised how quiet it was. Not like the old days. Almost started to get a 40 series to get some noise. I think many folks have run w/striaght thru pipe ,,, it prob. sounds better. I'm dumping in front of the rear wheel,,,, so i did it myself. I left all the original muffler & tailpipe in tact so i could bolt it right back on if i wanted to trade it in someday. Even w/ the magnaflow ,,,,i got to get up to 4k passing some one up a slight grade to really get it to get anyones attention.
The 5.4 is prob. louder. I really like the sound of the mustang gt's. Those are cool,,not sure what muffler it uses. paul

I think only the 04's have 4 cats. The 05's through 07's only have one on each side. So its a little louder.

the noise comes down to muffler and tip selection

straight pipes sound nice, but they are very raspy and are ungodly loud

btw, dumping it under the truck just gets everything in there dirty...it's better to at least run a short pipe to the side IMO.

Yeah and you have to consider these newer vehicles are really quiet these days and such plus they say ford is the quiest dodge and chev are louder with performance mufflers... dont know how true that is

My mom's tahoe with the same 50 series as mine is 10x louder than mine and it even sounds twice as loud as my friends 05 5.4 with a 40 series. So yes its true Chevy I know for sure is louder than Ford, but I don't know about dodge.

Oh trust me i have heard many dodges in my day they are louder than fords not to dis the fords but it sucks that they dont get that loud you have to straightpipe it to make em loud or something like that

I have installed a FM40 on my '06 5.4 and it took about a month or so for the sound to come around.
