adjusting transmission bands

I need to know how to adjust the second gear band in my 1994 ford explorer which has an A4LD auto tranny!

10' lbs, back off 2 turns.

adam_harding1234 05-20-2007 07:30 PM

do i screw it all the way in, torque to 10' lbs, and then back out 2 turns

stuart1 05-20-2007 08:40 PM

yes, that is correct.

well thanks you very much. Im going to do that first thing in the morning. I did adjust the band somewhat and the second gear is still slipping a little but if i screw it all the way in then out 2 turns that should stop that.

It must be torqued to 10'lbs, then backed off from there.

I went and did exactly what u said but now the second gear is not working at all, should i screw it out some more or screw it in?

stuart1 05-21-2007 07:41 AM

Leave it well enough alone.
There is obviously a problem that needs to be corrected.

yeah i think i might. I cant seem to screw that stud/adjuster bolt in far enough to get any torque on it. I would assume this means the second gear band is gone and needs to be repaired?

usually once a trans starts slipping it needs a new band and maybe other parts as well.

it is probably a combination of things worn out.

sounds like new transmission time, sorry.

I was wondering if the servo could be doing this weird problem??

" I cant seem to screw that stud/adjuster bolt in far enough to get any torque on it. I would assume this means the second gear band is gone and needs to be repaired "

If you are unable to screw the adjuster in far enough to get the correct torque the servo is not the problem.
