noise in engine after shutdown

Just traded my 2000 7.3 for a 2005 6.0 a couple weeks ago. So far I really like my "new" truck. My question is when I shut down the engine there's something that sounds like a pump or something that runs for 10 or 15 secs before it shuts off. I talked to another guy with an 05 who says his doesn't do this. Any ideas what this might be

Sounds like the "buzz" flash. It cycles the injectors after shutdown to purge them of oil to prevent stiction.

Thanks. I did read about that on another post and thought that might be it. Just wanted to hear what you'all have to say

Yup, I have an 03 with the 6.0 and I get the buzz before start and after shutdown.

Welcome to the site!

The buzz before start will probably be the vacuum pump.

;) One should refrain from getting a buzz before driving.

Sponge, if you dont like the buzzing, which some dont, theres a newer flash out that gets rid of it, and uses a different measure to accomplish about the same thing (stiction issues). Some of us are sticking with the buzz flash, but so far I havnt heard anything bad about the newer one, (Inductive Heating). Do a search and you can find a lot more about them if you want.
