Comments:

First truck: What peoples conception as to what's original is mindboggling. A frame off restoration nullifies the originality. It's not original..period. It's also waaay too much money. The paint scheme is wrong. The top should be white...that's what Ford did "as original."

Second truck: Those seats have been redone, the steering wheel is for a horn ring, but has a horn button from 1972 on it now. It's a better truck than the first one, but still waaay too much money.

Third truck: A roaring bargain from what one can see. But it's what you can't see that is the problem.

Well the first one is either a typing mistake or not stock since 302 is not supposed to be in a 1967.
I know I'm stepping in manure here on Number Dummy but may I question you on that colour scheme point? I think white was used as the lower paint. (oh jez sorry)
But me/ my neigbors own 3 1968/9 trucks that were using white as a lower coat, and all are faded paint jobs that were most likely factory. Also I have a have a assembly line poster that is supposedly from 969 that has several trucks with the lower portions white.
Again sorry for bringing this up, please go easy. LOL

1967-72 F100/350's when tu-toned were the reverse colour scheme of what was used in 1961/66 and 1973/79.

The 67/72's had the lighter colour on the roof and below the side mouldings.

The 1961/66's and 1973/79's had darker colours on the roof and above the side moldings.

Exceptions: 1973/79 Rangers and 1973/76 Ranger XLT's when tu-toned also have the darker colour below the lowest side mouldings along the rocker panels.


The "race track" moldings used on 1977/79 Ranger XLT Lariats use a darker colour between the race track moldings. The rest of the truck is a lighter colour. However, some 1978/79's were the reverse! Ford tried everything to make the trucks look different from the previous years. Because....the sheet metal is the same 1973/79.

More exceptions: Regional sales promotions featured special paint schemes in 1973/79.

So many of these trucks have been repainted, what was right originally has been forgotten by most..except the "nuts."

Trying to recall all this paint malarky, and adding the apropos veddy British U between the second o and the r in the word coloUr, is frying me brain.

btw part II. The first truck in Simi (pronounced "sim-ee" -it's a word from the Chumash language) Valley CA, is 20 miles NNW of me.

My brother inlaw had a truck just like the 77 one there. It had no rust and was in mint shape except for the faded paint. I really liked it and wanted to buy it at the time. Problem was I was going through the divorce at that time and no cash flow when he sold it. i never saw it again. It was a beaut of a truck.

To me it`s no problem though as I`m not a concours type of guy. As long as it has a Ford engine, resemblies anything even similar to what may have come from the factory and is a nice color I`m real happy with it.
Another factor is price, if it`s what I think is reasonable I`m even happier.:)

Why wouldn't I...You are correct, and so am I. When tu-toned, the paint below the side moldings is the lighter colour, as is the roof. The darker colour is above the side mouldings. The problem with that red truck is the red roof...not original. It may have been all red at one time, and when repainted, the owner painted just the lower portion white.

well, i love 'em all. but i won't be caught dead paying 13-15g's for them. (even if theta what the market says their worth) thats a hefty downpayment on a SD. the last '77 isn't too bad a price though.

A guy just needs to be rich, then ya could justify spending 15 grand on a restored truck.

true, but then i'd rather buy a stocker/original and do it personal...i don't get the feeling of accomplishment buying someone elses project...

I hear ya loud and clear sherm, I think the same way. Although sometimes buying a finished project sure is easier on the head, and knuckles!

yeah they both have there ups and downs...

lol...true about the knuckles prep...my head doesn't hurt much anymore...too much lacquer... :)
