1951 ford five star pick-up

just purchased a 1951 five star pick-up and would like to restore it to original
and i'm having a tuff time finding engine color for that year, proper wheel color-with or without wheel rigs, trans color (4 speed) etc . Any help on this would be gratefull. also is there a link to find the history on this truck ie. how many where made, of each color engine sizes, etc.

Welcome aboard!

What a wonderful group of guys and gals here. Everything you want to know about these great trucks will be supplied. (Not by me but by someone with actual knowledge - I'm still learning!) Just keep asking.

And take pictures. As is quite frequently quoted here, "We love pictures!"

ALBUQ F-1 04-07-2007 10:46 AM

Welcome! Good to have another "buck-tooth" Bonus Built on here, and staying stock, too! (don't be afraid to make some upgrades that improve reliability or safety!).

The Search tool is your best friend, specifically Advanced Search. There you'll find the engine color debates, modern paints that are close to them, and the answers to a lot of other questions.

Is your engine an 8 or a 6? I'm curious whether 5 Star cabs were automatically V8's? (maybe I should Search, huh?!)

DonMckay 04-07-2007 10:58 AM

The engine color has been debated quite a bit in the last while. I do believe that the correct color is the ford green. Check my gallery for the engine color. you can view it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=20802

As for the info on your truck there is a thread going on serial # if you post your serial number there and the info from your firewall someone will sort it out for you.
Welcome to FTE.
Don

1 piece windshield.new door and body trim, door locks on each door. and i even found out in my box of goodies with this truck( 5-star extra) i have the original matched -tone trumpet-blast electric horns. this truck has the 5-star extra package (still working on info about this) thanks.

you also can edit your posts in the lower right corner for I think up to 45 minutes, instead of reposting. saves on page space. Welcome to FTE and this forum will probably become your second home, lol. We love pictures!!! (there, I said it)

I think you're confused on the rear window; 48-50 had small windows, all '51 - on had a larger window. They all had one-piece windshields from '48-on. It sounds like you are reading a Ford ad? If so, they are undoubtedly comparing it to Chevy and Dodge trucks of the era.

Not sure what you mean by "2-way adjustable seat"; forward and backward?! Mine moves maybe 3" fore-aft.

ford5star 04-07-2007 12:53 PM

did not know about the windows. i'm just reading from a brochure nearest i can tell was printed in oct of 1950. the seat bottom and seat back are both adjustable.

I wish more ppl here had that book..it would sure answer many of the usual questions and save some endless typing and posting of all the specs the Ford trucks came with.

1951 Ford Five star pick-up

Number,
It's much cooler to have them looked up by a person that worked at a Ford dealer way back when!!!! Thanks for your time. By the way I have that book, got it for Christmas a couple years ago. I may have to peruse it this afternoon as it's pretty cold outside today.
Fordfivestar, Good luck with your truck and post some pictures soon.
Happy Easter Guys...
Jeff

ford5star 04-08-2007 08:32 AM

as soon as the weather breaks here i'll pull the truck out of the garage and snap a couple of pics. then i'll have to figure out how to post them. not up on computers yet. maybe i'll ask my daughter to help?

It can be a little intimidating to set up a gallery at first, but once you figure it out, it's not too bad. I'm sure your daughter can help.

I learned to drive on my Dad's '51. (See my gallery.) I still have the brochure that ford5star is reading from. While this is a keep-sake, I would rather have it in the possession of someone who will use AND share the information. (I'm currently working on two '60's Ford trucks, so I do not get on the '48-'60 forum very often.)

I will send this brochure, free of charge, to the first poster on this thread that commits to make copies for anyone else that requests them. (Sort of an F-1 chain letter - I KNOW it will bring you good luck.)

First poster gets it and everyone else interested can ask him for a copy.

If you do not want to commit to make & send out copies, just get on the list for a copy. (I am OK with the copier charging a reasonable fee to cover copying & mailing costs. It is six 8.5" x 11" pages, so $1 should cover it.)

P.S.: If no-one wants to do the work, I'll distribute copies for $1 to those who post asking for one.

If you send it to me, I can color-scan it to a PDF and mail it back to you. I have a '52 so it wouldn't be right to keep it. Is it this brochure?

acheda 04-16-2007 02:43 PM

I AM STUPID! My scanner is only a few feet away. Let me leave the offer on the table, but I will scan it and e-mail a copy to anyone who PM's me their e-mail address.

I will still send the original to the first '51 F-1 owner who wants it to keep with his truck.

P.S.: Mine is different - I'll scan my cover & post it here in little while.

acheda 04-16-2007 03:20 PM

This one is dated 10/50 (& is 8 pages not 6):

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=148615&.jpg

ALBUQ F-1, You suggest a pdf format; is there any reason not to just do jpeg's? (I know that a pdf can be multi-page, but they get pretty big to be moving around as e-mail attachments.) I am working on a Mac, so perhaps I could sent my TIFF scans to someone to package for the PC users.

ALBUQ F-1 04-16-2007 08:29 PM

PDF's tend to be a lot smaller than TIFF's, as little as 100k per page (color). JPEG's are OK but to get to that size you have to reduce quality. (which is what the PDF does automatically)

I'll take some scans! I've never seen that one.

PS -- PC's can handle TIFF's

51dueller 04-16-2007 09:50 PM

I think Irondragon has all the 52 brochures from F-1 to F-8. Just he doesn't have a good scanner.

acheda 04-16-2007 10:27 PM

I am in the process of sending the 8 TIFF's to 51dueller - he was the first to get a request in. When he has them all, I'll let him post where we go from here.

Meanwhile, I am using up all my bandwidth . . .

OK - it took me 1.5 hours because I am on a dish (Hughes) & uploading is about 1/10 of down-loading speed. If you guys can pass it on from here, I would appreciate it.

ksmith203 04-16-2007 10:32 PM

I sent a pm. I would love to get the F6 one from Irondragon.

51dueller 04-16-2007 10:42 PM

I've already got it in PDF form and have just sent a copy to Acheda. You guys can also PM me for a copy.

acheda 04-17-2007 06:33 AM

OK, thanks to Nathan, we have a 3.3 MB file to share around instead ot the 100+ MB of 8 TIFF's. I zoomed in tight and am impressed that nothing was lost in all that compression. (If you need the TIFF's, ask Nathan - I do not want to spend another 1.5 hours sending them out!) I think I sent one to everyone that asked, but if you asked & did not receive, just ask again.

I am still willing to give the brochure to someone with a '51 F-1 who will "give it a good home".

ALBUQ F-1 04-17-2007 02:47 PM

I got the PDF's, and they are excellent!

By the way, based on this brochure, it appears that the base cab was the 5-Star, and the "deluxe" cab was the 5-Star Extra. I always thought the base cab was the "Standard", and the deluxe was the "5-Star."
