51 F6 Radiator support Alignment
 

51 F6 Radiator support Alignment? There looks to be two places to align the radiator support. Is one for a flathead 8 and the other for a flathead 6 which is a longer engine? I put my front clip in place, but there is no room for the radiator. It looks like I have to move the support forward and use the two front holes in the crossmember for the 226 engine. Is this correct. I am going to move the support tomorrow morning at 10.00 am. My friend is suppose to come over and help me lift the clip back off.

Yep, you use the front 2 holes in the crossmember for the 226. As you guessed the back ones are for the V-8. You just also got to use the corresponding holes in the inner fenders.

Thanks Dueller I will switch it up tomorrow. Do you have the diagram for the vaccum switch in my other post? I put a picture up of it. F6guy has one but cant figure out how to post it.

I only got the pictures that was posted in your other post about the 2spd axle.

You shouldn't have to remove the clip again in order to move the radiator support. Just remove all of the bolts from boths sides of the clip and on the bottom crossmember, and slide the radiator support to the correct position. Then reattach all bolts in the new area. You'll also have to move the fender braces.

I did that once and I scratched the paint off the inner fenders.

I have the inner fenders painted black so I should be able to touch them up if I have to. I will see how it goes.

Two other things I discovered upon moving my radiator support forward. If your truck was originally V8 equipped, the air deflector at the bottom and in front of the radiator will be too wide. You can trim it like I did or you can look for one for a 6. Also, the air deflector in the hood which fits down over the radiator will not be in the right place to seal the top of the radiator. There are two sets of holes in the hood to mount the deflector but you will have to find one for a 6 as it is narrower. The one for the V8 cannot be moved forward since it is too wide. :)

according to my serial number my truck was a 6 cyl so I should be ok there.
