best type of oil for 2001 5.4L F150 and how many miles?
hey all; first post; what is the best type of oil to use in the 5.4L v8's? ie (10w-30, 5w-20, etc....)?????
and how many miles are these engines typically lasting??? i know its a crapshoot but i am wondering how many miles you guys have on your 5.4L's....thanks |
I use 5w-30 in my '99. Thats what Ford recommends, so thats what I use.
As for longevity, like you said its a crapshoot. Personally, Ive got 156,000 miles on mine. Ive seen a few E-Series vans with Triton engines that had well over 300,000 miles (I recall one that had over 500,000 on it), so Id say that durability is not something you should be concerned with. Change the oil every 5,000 miles, change the air filter every 12,000 miles and your engine should just about last forever. |
I was told by a dealer to move my 2000 5.4L to the 5w-20 and its been great especially in the colder weather. But i do my oil and filter every 3,000 miles

i have 208--- mi on my 01 5.4 5w20 every 3000mi no prob.
|
10w 30 on my 2001. change every 5000 miles--- 155,000 and runs like new.
|
Hey Steve what made you run 10w 30 in ur truck, i thought it called for 5w 20? Just curious what makes you run that type of weight.
|
2001, and I run 5w20 motorcraft 76,000 and no probs, truck set alot, change oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.runs...smooth as silk

2000 - 5w30 change oil every 7000 miles - 120,000 and runs like new. oil brand what ever.

Run whatever oil meets Ford spec in your owners manual for your vehicle. Follow Ford severe spec for change intervals and you should be ok.
