Factory original colour of rims?

In restoring a 73 F350, what colour should the 16.5" rims be painted? I'm thinking white, but possibly silver? Was there an official factory colour for the rims?

The rims on my 77 F250 are the same cream color as the truck. But that may be an aftermarket paint job, as I've found some bondo.
Anyone know if they did body color wheels from the factory?

They were on my 78 F-250 but the truck was white so this may not be a good example. :)

I've seen white and black. (not sure if the black was factory)

Semi-gloss black
or
Wimbledon white
were the official colours.

Thanks - much appreciated. Is there any indication on which models had white or black rims, or was it random? i.e. specific colour indicated rim width, etc?

Yes, exactly as you presume.

My Silver Truck got WW rims

Dark coloured trucks got Black rims

My dads 74 full time 4x4 had silver/gray rims with chrome hub cabs and it looked really nice when new, its a custm

The Explorer packages came with black rims from what I have seen. This lets the rim "disappear" behind the open areas of the Explorer covers. Both of my other 70's trucks came with white rims.

Ok, let's try this - if the 1973 F350 is a two-tone Sequoia Brown/Yellow, with the brown on the bottom half, what colour would the factory 16.5" rims have been?

brentleedragon 03-21-2007 11:04 AM

mine are a rustish color? looks pretty cool..lol well i'd think white because of the yellow but maybe black wait for dennis

the rims on my 77 f250 custom are silver
the rim on the 79 f150 xlt(?) are a cream color

I think all standard tires were white regardless of body color. Most likely, the owners painted the wheels to accustom their taste. Someone painted my standard wheels (white) black and did a poor job of it.

My '74 F-100 Explorer has / had silver rims. (I replaced them with Ford 150 Aluminum rims from a '96) They are the original ones rims and were hidden behind the full face chrome hubcaps. :D
