Max tire size on a non-lifted F350 SD

Thanks to all that replyed to my last question about the FM mufflers. looks like i'll be checking other manuf. for their products. next question: what woud be the max tire size i could install on the 03 f350 sd with no lift kit? i was thinking Mickey Thompson MTZ in the 33 to 35 range. would hate to purchase and find out they rub. thanks again for all the help.

285/75/16 are the largest that will fit a stock 03 F350 on stock rims. I had that size on my 03 and it would just touch the fender liner when off road.

I have heard of guys sqeezing 305/75/16's on stock wheels with no lift. I have LT285/75/16 Dick Cepek FC-2s and they fit very well with no lift and stock wheels. Dick Cepek and Mickey Thompson tires are made by the same manufactuer. The FC-2s I got have 5/8" tread depth which really help the tire bite the tradeoff is they howl some on the road.

I am also interested in this question. I have a 2004 F350 single wheel 4x4. I already know that I shouldn't go bigger than 285/75/16 on my factory 16 inch rims. But I was wondering if a guy went to a bigger rim if he could use bigger rubber without getting a lift kit.

I run 285/75/16 on a 4x2 F250 with no rubbing or issues my buddy runs 305s on his 350 4x4 with no issues both on stock rims. Both sets of tires are E rated. I do not think you could go any bigger then the 305 on the stock rim.

I just put 325/60/18's on 18x10 rims on my 2000 F350 with no lift. I used 1/4" spacers behind the bumper and zip tied the back of the fender liner for a little more room while turning. No rubbing and it looks great. I'm still going to lift the front 1-2" but for now it works good. 325/60/18's are listed as 33x13, but are closer to 34" tall.

The diameter of the tire doesn't change just because you change the wheel diameter. There's no reason you couldn't put a 35" tire on the stock rims.

You can put a 315/70R16 on a stock rim however the wheel is way under the recommended width range. Tire wear and handling may be issue. The stock wheel is actually narrower than recommended for the 285/75R16.

Yeah, 35" is 35" is 35" regardless of whether it's on a 16" wheel, a 17" wheel or a 20" wheel (or any other wheel). It will fluctuate slightly based on the width of the wheel (8" or 10" wide), but only slightly (maybe .5").

Does anyone have this answer for a E99 F350. I am debating a leveling kit but would wait if I can get 285/75 on my stock wheels.

kas83 04-23-2014 01:55 PM

285s on stock wheels here, not a single issue. I've seen many sets of 315s on stock wheels as well, no rubbing. I wouldn't recommend that, but they do fit.

I ran the Goodyear silent armor 305/ 70/16 on my 03 f350 v10 on the stock rims for a few years (i know rim is too narrow) (i had 3 kids ages 3,1 1/2,and newborn) budget was tight then, no moving bumper or valence trim, inner fender pull back needed. I just ran pressures 45 psi front/40 psi when unloaded which was 99.8% of the time they wore very evenly (suprising) have 35,000 miles on them. And still have 40% tread left. Kids are older now (11,9,6) so for the last 3 years I've been sporting the 8" lift ,365/75/16 (38x14x16) km2's,on 16x10 ion alloys, but back then I had to do what I had to do to get a little more rubber under the truck (without the wife noticing) you all know how it is.

2 inch front leveling kit got me 35/12.50/20 on my truck, room for bigger

Running new 305/70/16 on the stock rim fits nicely ,,,but will it effect anything as in running ,speed or anything else?

dkf 06-04-2014 11:06 PM

Going up to 33" tires from the stock 32" tires actually made my speedo closer to accurate mph. Ford sets the speedo to read fast from the factory. I have checked with 2 GPS units and got the same result, right on.
