Tires for 18" wheels
 

Have any of the good tire manufacturers mad a tire yet for those of use who have the F350 SD with 18" wheels?? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Are their any good tires out there in a load D or E rating. I really getting tired of the performance of the conti pieces of &*$% on my truck.

Just upgraded to 285's BFG AT KO, like them alot, they are load range E.

Many of the manufacturer's are catching up now with the 18" load range E tires.

Tires Brands that I looked at that had 18" load range E's were:

BFG (AT TA KO's).
Cooper Discoverer AT's
Pro-Comp (couple nice tires in there)
People like their Nitto Grapplers

I wanted a good all around tire that does about 90% highway, could keep good traction on boat ramps, snow, and dirt roads with a bit of mud. I chose the BFG's and like them, but there are lot's of others that are nice. No regrets ditching the Contitracs, they were decent on the highway but nobody reports they do well anywhere else.

The Stock 18" rims should be 8" wide, so keep that in mind when looking at tires, some of them need 9"+ rims, so you would need rims as well on the larger tires.

Thanks Flux. I did the seat shopping and couldn't find anything online which is why I was asking. Thanks for the help. Looks like I will be going to town next week and hit the stores up for these. I've run BFG and GY and am pleased with both makes. Just wish Ford had put a "REAL" tire on these trucks instead of the "conti's".

As Flux already mentioned, 18 inch BFGs are available in load range E. The 285-65 x 18 tires are practically identical to the stock Continentals in size.

I run a set of 285-65 x 18 BFG AT's for winter tires and they have performed well for snow plowing, towing and normal driving. When in mud these AT tires are not at their best so if your see lots of deep mud, go for the MT series instead.

Goodyear has just released a line of 18 inch tires which are reported to be very good. Ditto with Toyo.

Not long ago I had done an intenet seach and came up with 5 or six tires that are now made in the stock LT275/70-18 size load range E.

The BFG's are good tires.

Hey I feel your pain. my new '07 has those wonderful Conti's on it and I just can't explain how bad they suck. I was getting mad yesterday in the snow.. I thought my fabulous ESOF had failed already....here it was fine, the tires just suck that bad. I don't know what genious decided this was a good tire for a Super Duty... especially with the FX4 OFF ROAD package. Maybe they think off road means wet grass or a gravel back road or something.

Geez, hope I aint got those on mine. I got 275/65R20E AT OWL's is all I know. I've never gotten good tires from the factory so they probably are.

They suck under those conditions also...

I was looking at the Dick Cepek FC-ll's when the time comes... They are load range E, but they are pricey...

I'm real happy with the Cooper Discoverer ATRs. I just put them on a couple of hundred miles ago. American made and owned too.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I also did a search in the SD forum (changed my wording a bit) and came upon several threads posted all within a day or two of each other about 7 pages back. It made for some great reading and I got a lot of ideas now.

I just put on a set of ProComp Xtreme AT's 325/65R18...mounted on 9 in wide Eagle alloys...

I've got a heavy camper and needed more capacity...took off 315/75R18 Nitto AT's...

The new ProComp's really help the handling of my rig with the top heavy camper! They are outstanding!

Did you go with the same size as stock(275/70/18) and do you have any pictures? Do they fill the wheel wells better than the Conti's?

I did go with the stock size, but I really wanted 35" tires. I just didn't want to go wider than 12.5" or go with a mud terrain tire. As for filling the wheel wells... they're 33" tall already from the factory so it fills in better than previous years. No real difference from the Contijunks as far as filling in the wheel well. They do look a hell of a lot nicer than the contis though. More like the BFG All Terrains. I have the 2 1/2" lift, so I think the 35"s would have looked nicer. Next time... No pictures yet. We just got 12"+ of the white stuff Friday night, so the truck is nice and clean... ya, right....
