Brand New Washingtonian here!!!!!!!!

Just moved to Kennewick from Las Vegas.

I love the friendly people and the relaxed atmosphere, but, you secret is safe!:-D
Hope this isn't annoying, I was not sure where exactly to post this to get help.

Hi all !

Just bought a 1970 F150 with a 302 & C4. I have owned others before, but, never a 302.

The truck has a low speed miss but runs well as you accelerate. If you let the truck just ease along and don't accelerate it bucks slightly as you hold the gas pedal steady. It idles OK but the choke dosn't work and it is 'cold blooded'.

I think I need a new or re-con 2 bbl Carb.

Where is the best place to get one?

I look forward to helping and being helped as I get this thing going right.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from 'ya'll'

Welcome to the WA chapter!
The 302/351 forum should be able to give you any help you might need, but the first things to do would be a full tune-up, compression check, and maybe get rid of the points for an electronic ignition system.
If it's the Motorcraft/Autolite carburetor, that's really easy to rebuild. Basically, if you can unbolt it, you can rebuild it. If yours has issues like cracks or stripped screws, I have four of them in different sizes hanging on the wall in my garage. None have the linkage for the automatic transmission kickdown, but that can be swapped over.

Welcome to the Forum

I am sure you will find your answers... You will get answers in the thread, but RexB and Ford_Six would be great members to PM. FordF350 may be another source, he is a member from your town.

BTW...have you considered joining the chapter?...There are great people here!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

The truck has a unilite electronic distributor on it. All the spark plugs are white which indicates a 'lean condition'. This is better than black gunk on them.
The truck starts imediately not even a full turn of the fan so I can assume the tuning is pretty good. I will however get a set of 8.5 heat shielded wires cause it has Headers on it. Also a new cap and rotor and I have a Blaster coil to put on.
I need to find Unilite parts though, any ideas?

Welcome aboard and to Washington usdart :-wink

Since you say the timing and firing is ok, sounds like maybe just a dirty carb, get carb cleaner into the jets to soak a few hours and spray the inside of the throttle body. Like Ford_Six said, they are an easy rebuild for $15 kit or he has those good carbs for good prices.

Might just be old gaskets letting air in when they shouldn't, a kit has all the gaskets too. I'll see ya' over at the 302/351 forum, though I don't have those motors anymore. Wait! Have a 351M in my boat!

Here's a list of Mallory Unilite shops, i haven't looked if one of our forum sponsors carries them, probably do.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. Don't forget to check for vacumn leaks. They seem to have more of an effect at low RPMs.

You have that right!

Good Hours

Those are the hours I am getting close to. Been fun adjusting from 9-5 to 7-3. I won't even address the idoits that came up with the idea of changing time twice a year...This past week was like having jet lag, without going anywhere.

MARTYSTOWRIG 03-17-2007 11:13 AM

I have been the same way I just thought it was the wicked alergies
