12" sub in aŽ89 reg cab. Is it possible?

Hi guys.
I have a 12" JL Audio subwoofer and I would like to get it into my Ž89 F150 reg. cab.
Mounting depth is 6" so is it even possible to get in there? If anyone of you have 12" sub,how big box do you guys have? Any dimensions would be great.

Or do I have to buy a another sub with less mounting depth?

you could do it, but your seat would be scooted up almost all the way to fit a box back there with enough airspace. i ran 2 12's with 5.75" mounting depth for awhile, but i'm happier with my 10" W1's that take up less space.

stick it on your pass. seat...

ok, but seriously, you should be able to get it in like ^^^ said, but a smaller 10" set up properly should sound great too. i see you have the 12" already, so i say try it and you can always pawn it if it doesn't work.

Hi guys.

I took it off from its old enclosure which I had in my car and tried to fit it back there, and I have to say that it wont fit. :-X16
I dont want that my seat is too much at front,i want it almost all the way back.

Quess IŽll have to find 10" sub with less mounting depth.

Well,now i have 12" for my Ž64 Galaxie! :-D

check out pioneer or premier subs, they have a shallow mount sub that has a mounting depth of around 3" and it needs less than a cubic foot enclosure

You can always make a center console box and put the sub in there.

JL Audio, Clarion and Rockford Fosgate all have shallow mount subs.

i wouldn't recommend the shallow mount subs, they generally do not sound as good or handle as much power as a regular one. you can easily fit 2 10's behind the seat and scoot the seat almost all the way back if space is your concern.

ok just a suggestion. have you thought about tubes? i have 2 bazooka tubes packed with 8" infinity subs and 2 amps behind my seat and it sounds great.

seems like 8" tube subs would take up more room than some 10" boxed subs, since the box for a 10" could be as small as 6"

they have the airspace needed for the sub versus getting a 10" or 12" and a shallow box. i have a friend with shallow boxed 10s under his back seat and the sound isn't that great. i am not saying i have the best system in the world but it works and i am happy with it. if you use any of the info i gave, great. that is what my goal was.

WoomaHodal 03-28-2007 01:52 AM

well it all depends on what type of subs you have. i built my box, a single airspace box for 2 JL W1 10's, gave them each 1.3 cubic feet (2.6 cubic feet of airspace total), and they sound amazing. oh, and my seat is scooted all the way back. its ok to have a shallow box, as long as the airspace is there somewhere.
