Stick on oil pan heater
 

Has anyone tried the stick on oil pan heaters from JC whitney? I live in alaska and it can get pertty cold here. I need something more than the block heater when the temp drops below -20. Also been looking for a recirculating heater instead of the block heater I had no luck finding one on the internet.

Zerostart makes circulation heaters, but it doesn't look like they have an application for the 6.0L.

Oil pan heaters are great. I use a Wolverine engine heater, model 16 which is a 250 watt heater that fits the bottom of the 6.0 oil pan nicely.Telephone # is 800-545-2248 for Wolverine Engine Oil Heaters.

I also have the Wolverine engine heater and it works great. I did look into the Webasto Blueheat heater with remote activaction and was told it would run about 1,600 installed. I've seen it installed and it's a nice working set-up, but I think it's quite pricey.

I installed the Wolverine Model 16 about 3 years age, spliced the wires into the block heater plug and am amazed at how smooth startups are and how quickly the heat blows inside. Both heaters together use 1200 watts so I use a regular outdoor timer from Home Depot set to start 3 hours before I start the engine. Unless I'm mistaken, at 10 cents per kilowatt hour my 3 hours usage daily costs me 36 cents.

So JC Whitney is still selling that stick on block heater.

Go ahead and get it but be aware that it does get HOT and does pull SOME juice. If you plug it and the stock heater into the same outlet CHECK your breaker!

ps: it does get cold in Tx we went a month without getting above 32 and that stick on heater kept my 460 jet boat nice and warm.

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the wolverine heaters out. 1600 for the blue heat is out of my price range- cool looking system looks like the way to go if you could afford it.

The Wolverine 16 is $59.95 plus shipping and we know it fits on the irregular shape of our oilpans.

As cold as it gets in your neck of the woods I don't believe I'd try anything that uses adhesive to stick to something. The unit you're talking about sounds "light duty" at best.

If I were you I'd look around at some of the suggestions that the other folks have told you about.

We have an '05 Passat TDI that doesn't have a block heater provision. One of the 'stick-on' heaters I looked at req'd the paint on the pan to be sanded down to bare metal. I didn't like that idea but I guess if it was removed, it could be repainted.

A custom circulation heater is available, but I haven't made a move on one. Zerostart makes the base heater, but they don't show an application for the 6.0L. Probably because they are all supplied with the block heater, and the cord is available . (if it's not already installed)
