Expedition window off track
 

Passenger window has come off track - window repair guy says his company wont allow him to use silicone on the window to reseat it (problem with the tabs) - and the adhesive they use wont stick to silicone which is on the window so only option is to replace whole window. This sounds like a scam to me. Question is -cant I just reseat and re silicone the window myself or is this a process that is too involved and should be done by a auto glass company?

I had the driver's door window come out of the track. The window was leaning forward and would not go up or down. Took it to a local glass repair guy and had it fixed $60 later. Just had to leave the window in the up position for 24 hours until the adhesive set. The window did not need to be replaced and personally I would let a professional do it, but I'm sure it's not out of the realm of a DIY job.

I fixed my using Gorilla glue. Just make sure you clean old silicone off the window and clips are in same location.

Gorilla glue worked for me as well. Mine was the drivers side rear window. I cleaned it up real good. Gorilla glues it and then left the window up overnight. Been almost a year now with no problem.

I have had to reseat both front windows in my 97 Expy EB. I used clear silicone and have had no problems for 3 years thus far. I live in North Florida and park the vehicle outside year round so it sees extreme heat and moderately cold conditions.

I would recommend taking out the little black seats and thouroughly cleaning out the old silicone. Also make sure you thoroughly clean the window where it sits in the seats. Its tedious and time consuming but it makes a world of difference for the adhesion of the new silicone. Gorilla glue might work too, I've never used it but I would only use it if it stayed flexible. Anything that dries to hard will make it very difficult if you ever have to put new glass in.

We have a 98 expedition. Drivers side. Window keeps coming off track. Tried Epoxy. I will give the Gorilla Glue a try. Getting the door off easy. Glue marks on glass locate the clips. Re-mark the with Sharpie. Removing the door panel on the 98 expedition was basic. The entire fix process is about 1 hour once you know how to remove the door panel. But if you can get it done like that other guy for $60 bucks - that's a deal.

The correct thing to use as a fix for the retainer clips is 3M panel bonding adhesive. Nothing else will hold it tight enough.

Thanks I will give that a try. It seems a little pricey at $40 but the sooner it gets done correctly the better. This will be my third attempt. It may have been too cold the last time I did and I got a poor cure on the epoxy.

I did this exact same thing on the passenger side of the navi, it worked great for me, the tabs are easy enough to get out.

thanks for all of the ideas. gorilla glue worked fine for me. let it dry for 3 days. rolled it up and down.., its works like new. thanks again.

I cant believe that modern tech would even attempt to believe that metal tightly squeezed on glass was the right way to secure a moving window.... wtf Ford????
