Anyone running bio in 6.0 Powerstroke?
 

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone out there running WVO or Biodiesel in a 6.0 powerstroke?
From what I have read it seems that the earlier 7.3 was bio-friendly but the new design of the 6.0 has its limitations. I have a 2006 6.0 and have been looking into either a 2 tank conversion or making my own biodiesel. What are the main stumbling blocks on these 6.0's that have to be addressed? Any success stories out there for these engines? Any information would be appreciated.

I run B20 which I buy at the pump over in Philly, in my stock tank. I run WVO in my second tank. I have an 05 PSD.

I find it way easier to run WVO since I only have one engine to feed. Some with multiple engines in the family find it easier to make BIO. You have to decide that for your self.

The challange is the warranty you would screw with with anything more then B5 or WVO.

The conversion of the 6.0 is pretty easy. At the 50,000' over view level..

You just need to add a new filter, pump, and tank. Find a heat source for it all and tape into the fuel system.

05 PSD 2 Tank WVO 35K miles and counting on WVO

I have a '06 Lariat. I started running Bio when I had about 4,000 miles on it. Not a single problem so far. It's not my daily driver so I'm only coming up on 10K now I'm still on the original fuel filter and ran B-100 last summer and have been able to run 60/40 (Diesel/Bio) through the cold temps (0* and single digits) that we just experienced in February with no problem's. I make my own Bio and am looking forward to running B-100 again when temps warm up. It's great not having to go to the gas station and pay $80.00 to fill up.

I just added 18 gallons to a half-full tank pf regular diesel in my '07 F350. If all goes well I'll start running the B99. I'll let you know how it goes!

ive been using Bio(b20-b100) in my 7.3L for about a year and it has been running great w/ no fuel problems. i just got a 05 6.0L and the other day added 5gals of b100 to an almost empty tank and it seems to have really quited the engine down. now when I start it up in the morning all I hear is the turbo spooling just a idle. I am going to fill my tank up tommarow in my 6.0L with the b100 I have and will be keeping close watch on fuel consumption and performance.

I have been running 5% bio diesel in my tractors for a couple of years. I have had a problem in the last 3 months, and our local suppliers have stopped carrying it. Something to do with the blend. The soy and ultra low sulphur are not getting along. We are seeing tender pump filters plugging with a waxy substance when it is colder that 30. Switching from hydrosorb (cornstarch) filters to paper has helped. Coop says problem is still not solved. I have an empty tank waiting to be filled with bio diesel this spring. I love it when it is warm! I hope the glitches can be worked out of it soon. I raise soybeans!!!

I have several customers that run B100 in their powerstrokes. I also have several that only run B20 and B80.

Not a single problem reported yet.

1 ton - I also farm and what your coop has is a bad batch of B100 from their supplier. My fuel supplier had this problem 3 years ago. Got to zero and it just froze up. they took a sample of the b100 and it didn't meet specs for biodiesel fuel B100. They now have a different supplier from Bangor michigan and don't have a single problem. I ran B5 at -19 deg and it fired right up and I had some in a 5 gallon can outside and it poured very well.
