Intake question

Ok guys I am sold on the Kwik mod 6637, I wish I would have read all the posts on it before I bought my K&N FIPK, oh well what can you do. Live and learn right? Here is my question, would the 6637 filter fit on the K&N intake tubing? It seems to me it would. Looking at it everything seems to measure up, as long as the intake is 4" it should fit. Just take off the K&N and put the 6637 on and clamp it down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

At most, you might need to use a short piece of 4" exhaust pipe (no more than 4" long) for transition between the two connection points, but I'm not sure about what the K&N tube is either made of or how it connects.

If the K&N is soft and flexible, and does fit over the 6637 extruded end, make sure to use some rough sandpaper to roughen up the 6637 extrusion before installation. The rougher surface will help prevent the connecting tube from slipping off, as it is slightly tapered.

If you do use the exhaust pipe transition, the above mentioned sanding is not necessary.

Also, make sure to clamp it firmly.

My pics of my own install are in my gallery.

Thanks for the info. I looked under the hood at my current filter and the filter end fits over the intake tube not inside it. So I think I am going to have to look at both of the filter ends and see if they are the same. Just from looking at pics of the filter and looking at my intake tube, it looks like the 6637 will fit inside the tube I am just wandering about clamping it down, I dont want the filter to fall out. Sorry so long winded I am thinking out loud. I will keep you guys posted. If there are any other ideas, I am open to them. Thanks guys.

the extrusion (open end) end of the 6637 filter is 4 and 7/16th OD. Inside diameter is a tight 4", thus the 4" OD exhaust pipe coupler. Just happen to have an extra 6637 filter sitting near my computer.

Went by NAPA today to get a price check for the 6637 and see if it would fit, they didnt have one in stock nor did they know the part number. Where is another place to look? I am thinking I am going to have to order one and see if it will fit in my intake tube. If it doesnt then I am only out $40.

F-250 Newbie I was looking at the tubing and it is hard plastic and it looks like the 6637 will fit inside it. I am wondering if I should still do a 6" long piece of the 4" exhaust tubing and slide the 6637 over one end and put the other end inside the intake and tighten it with hose clamps. Well I will keep you guys posted.

Check with Fleetfilter.com

Their prices just went up a bit very recently, and are now running about ~$25+shipping. For where you are, the shipping may make them higher tahn one of your local shops. The Fleet part number is 546377, I believe.

As far as the 4" exhaust transition goes, you will only be able to get about 2.5" in the 6637 extruded end, and may not need all of the extra to connect with your existing intake tube... not sure. Let us know how it comes out, and don't hesitate to ask more questions if something doesn't seem right to you.

Will check them out, with shipping it should be around $40. Thanks again

It's a Wix filter, I got mine at Napa, but they had to make sure it had the 4 infront of the 6637 or it wouldnt come up on their computer.. also you might have to refer to it by another brand name or part number. check this link.

I will keep checking. I was also thinking about the AFE filter. Does anyone know how big the filter opening is and if it would fit on my current intake tube? I am just going through different ideas, I really want to change out the oiled filter to an oiless without buying a whole new intake setup. If I have to, well I have to. Thanks again guys

Newbie, the FleetFilter part number is 46637.

To answer your question yes it does. I made the same mistake you did in buying the K&N system, then I started reading this forum and went to 6637. It slips right on the end of the K&N tube, the only problem is you will have to cut the battery tray so the filter goes down enough to close the hood.

Thanks Fast One. I was hoping it fit, I just wanted to make sure though. How do you like the 6637? I will keep you posted. Thanks again

Thanks, Kris. I sometimes have a warped memory, and it helps to have you guys to help keep me straight.
