I know some of the Autoparts stores carry leather skins, and you do sew them on. They are already punced with the holes, to you just lay the wrap around the wheel and start threading. If I remember correctly, they were less than $30, and available in many colors.

I had the exact same problem, the factory leather steering wheel cover that was sewn onto the steering wheel was wearing down and looking a little ragged. I almost opted to go for those ones you see at the Auto Store where you sew them on, but if you don't do it right, it looks like crap. So I just opted for the slip on cover, a nice one that matched the brown woodgrain interior on the dash. Kinda of like this :

I'm not the only one that does this also, I have seen quite a few other Bronco's and F150's with the same thing I have. It must be a common problem. I left the original leather steering cover on and slipped this one over it. I didn't really want to cut off the orignal one. With this in mind, it will be a task to slip the cover over it, so take it slow and eventually it will go on.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I put one of the auto parts store leather sew -on ones on an S10 Blazer once. I'm not talking about the cheesy $2 one like your Grandpa had, with the laces that go around the outside. This was a leather one with pre-punched holes. Anyway, it came out looking very nice, but it was a pain in the butt! It took me over 3 hours to sew it on! And, although it does look nice, it is not as nice, or as thick, as the factory leather cover. But if you don't have a leather one now, it makes a pretty nice cover.

BTW - before I bought that leather cover, an upholstery shop told me it would be $250 to put one one like a factory one. Hence the auto parts cover!

Thats why i am very nice to my mother the seemstress because she has the time and knowledge to replace mine when I finally get the new leather for her to sew together.

I also tried the slip on one and was not happy. Then again my mechanic says I am anal and no it will never be like it was when it came from the factory. (my 91 has 146,000 on it) The other thing you will run into with an aftermarket wheel (Grant or ??) is the cruise control. The steering wheels are relatively inexpensive until you add the adapter kit for the cruise control. I priced it out through Summit online and it was up in the 250-300 range just for a cheap wheel after you add the adapters and cruise control adapters.

anyone check if Ford sells a replacement cover or just the whole wheel. I'd like to see prices for both.

BTW, anyone know of an online microfiche type parts source for genuine Ford parts?
My dealer has had their site underconstruction for more than a year.

at our walmart here (i dunno about if its at urs), there is a steering wheel cover we use for 3 of our 5 vehicles right now (78 mobile home, plymyth voyager, and my bronco), and its around 20 bucks, 17 maybe, and its gel filled, very comfortable, and fits most steering wheels, in the cold it feels firm, but warms ur hands, and isnt cold or brittle like others, id recomend it

My steering wheel was ruined from years of having steering wheel cover on it. I found a brand new factory leather wheel on ebay for the buy it now price of $90.00 plus shipping. The wheels are still on ebay if your interested.
