Block heater cord
 

Recently the plug on my block heater cord ripped off while driving and just needed some help figuring out how to wire up a new plug to it. If anyone knows which is ground and what not it would be appreciated.

This is from the ford factory service manual. I couldn't find anything about which wire was ground and what not. Hope this helps a little.

1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the block heater.

1. Remove the block heater from the oil cooler.

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

The black and white wire go to the flat blades just be sure the green is the ground lug (round blade). Those are the colors used for 110V AC, not sure if the cord has the same colors.

You can use an ohm meter to find the ground wire. Place one probe on the battery ground and one on each of the 3 wires coming from the cord.

Green is ground, which is attached to the center prong ( U shape) and the two other wires hook up to the outside posts, is doesn't matter which wire is hooked to which. I just had to do this yesterday myself. It is never warm when you have to do these jobs either.

For any plug truck or cord, neutral is the big/wide blade, hot is the smaller/narrow blade on any plug. I haven't seen the wires inside the covering on the truck, but typically for the wires: white is neutral, black/red hot, and green ground.
