Performance & tuning questions

I have an '05 F150, 5.4L, HD towing with 3.55 gears. This thing is a slug, 17.47 in the quarter, will not spin a tire, & has a rough loud running engine. Tired of the dealer telling me they are all like this. Ideas? My '66 with a Cleveland will not tow anything like this but it runs 16's. I am at a loss here.

there are a lot more experienced people on this site than me...but my 2 cents:

every dealer tells me they idle rough....my mods, especially the Hypertech Power Programmer, really made her idle and run better...then again, that's the only mod that i noticed a difference.

Put some 410 gears in it.

No offense but why have a HD Truck and be concerned about the quarter mile time? A 16 or a 17 whats the difference? Not trying to disrepectful (my buddy has a 12 second diesel). I think the best option if you want to go fast is to get a Lightening or a mustang.

The gears are a little tall, but if your running stock tires they will do. You didn't mention any mods, so I must assume it's all stock. A 17 second truck is average, don't expect better from a stock 5000lbs+ vehicle.

Here's the standard progression, Air intake, exhaust and tuner. Get more air in, then get it out and add more fuel. So I would do the same I have done to my f250 with 5.4L. K&N kit, gibson headers, gibson single out cat back, Sniper Special forces software, Factory tech valve body. Of course, I have 4.56 gears coming in.
