1956 F500 22.5" 5 LUG REPLACEMENT RIM/TIRES

My 1956 Ford F500 has 5 lug 22.5" wheels with 7:00 X 22.5" tires. The F500 has 5 lug whereas the F600 has 6 lug wheels. I have seen replacements for the F600 but not F500.

Does anyone know of a source for a wider replacement rim that will accomodate a 9:00 X 22.5 tire or a source for 7:00 X 22.5 tires?

It seems to me that Semi-trucks run 22.5" rubber, a little spendy though

1956 F500 22.5" 5 LUG REPLACEMENT RIM/TIRES

I was able to locate six replacement rims from Classic Ford in Maine from a 1958 F500. The rims mount an 8.25 X 20" tire that is readily available. Stockton Wheel in California suggested 6.00 X 19.5" used rims as an alternative as well.

Thanks,

Tom Dowd

the 6 lug 22.5 was common on the 80's f600 I see them on telephone co, PG&E, UPS, fed ex trucks of the 1980's vintage. ck with your medium duty wrecking yard

Tubeless 6 lug x 8.75" bolt circle 22.5s are more common, but still might take some looking to find used and in good shape. New ones are still available from Accuride but will be spendy. Here's the Accuride catalog listing. Go to page 4 of the pdf file, part #28157.

Also, our member Alan (awhtx) contacted me earlier this week that he has a partial set of these that he'd like to sell. His note is in the message section here. You can read it and get his email address by clicking on my user name above. Also our members Kevin Bigwin (bigwin56f100) and Bill Walford (WALFORD'S56) might have a line on a set. I know that Kevin recently sold a set, and Bill also has big trucks so might have a lead on some. Both live in Ohio which would be close for you since you're in PA.

And last, this morning I'm gonna drive south to a small town near here to meet with the owner of a truck parts company that closed its doors yesterday. They have a lot of odd ball sized new and used wheels left in inventory that I'm gonna see about buying if I can negotiate with him. I know they have one set of six lug 22.5s (unfortunately they don't have any five lugs left in stock). If anything comes of that I'll put them in the classifieds here. So there are some options for you. Hope that helps. Stu

No 5 lug 22.5's here. I sold my last set of 6 lug 22.5's(had 6 of them) a few months back.

I was told the 70's U haul trucks used 5 lug 22.5's. Just what I was told,

I have a set of 22.5s and a set of 20's.....but shipping such heavy wheels and tires are really high. I may need them some time in the future and that is why I hang on to them, but if someone wants to pay ,maybe they will get sold.

I just got back from meeting with the owner of the place I mentioned above. He's got probably 3 or 4 used 6 lug 22.5s in a shed with decent tires on them. When I was there a couple weeks ago he also had two more out in the yard that I didn't see this time. I thought I also remembered him having some new ones, but I guess I was wrong. I didn't buy what he had but will put anybody that might want them in contact with the fellow. Sounds like he's gonna close up the business but keep selling parts as a retirement sideline. What is great for me is that he gave (GAVE) me all of his old wheel catalogs. In exchange I'll look up stuff for him now too like I do here. Stu

I'm also looking for a set of 6 lug 22.5's wheels. Found 3 already locally and would like 3 or 4 more. Have a 68 Ford school bus with the widowmaker wheels and 7.50 x 20 tires with good/great tread on them if someone is interested. Chris in Calif. 805-748-8564

Since you are in CA you'll want to focus your search there for shipping reasons. Our member Number Dummy has shared on other threads that a yard in the LA area has a lot of old truck wheels. The name of the place is S. CA. Truck Wrecking. The owner is Marty, and you should talk only to him because the others don't know much. His phone is (323) 587-3144. Stu

Tim
If they are 22.5 they are tubeless. If they ar 20in they are tube type. Are your rims in bad shape? Or are you just having trouble looking for tires? Everyone is looking for tubeless rims to get rid of their Widowmaker ones.
I have 4 6 lug F600 rims tubeless. Anyone interested in them?
