'66 F250 4X4 decode

I'm going to need some (more) help on this one -- maybe 'Numbers' or 'Banjo' will know. I just bought a '66 F250 4X4 with what looks like a factory-installed, or dealer-installed dump body. Having a little fun with the odd horse-emblem above the fender, airharley made the observation that this might be a "workhorse" dealer model. After thinking about it awhile, that doesn't sound so crazy. Ever hear of such a model?

I've put some photo's in my gallery.

If you could help decode the data plate, I'd appreciate it:
VIN F26AE77051
WB120
color L
Body 381
Trans A
Axle 25
129HP cert
DSO 135458
L F260 A1 A 25 were at the bottom of the plate.

Also, any idea of how many F250 4X4's were made in '66?

Thanks for helping make this website such a wealth of info!

Bill (aka 66F100Again) -- guess I'm due for a name change?

Here you go:
F26 F250 4x4
A 240 six cylinder
E Manwah assembly plant
rest is the sequential unit number
color L 25 4:56
trans code A 3 speed

Production numbers for F250 4x4:
chasis and cab 644
platform and rack 125
platform 29
flareside 1,595
styleside 3, 559

The horse emblem must have been an add-on by either a dealer or previous owner.

Thanks for the info; this agrees with what I just found in BOTP. I was hoping they had a data error, as I would have preferred the 300 ci to the 240 ci that it looks like I've got. I've adjusted my "signature" to match this new info.

If you get a chance, post some photo's of your '66 F-250.

I'll try to post some photos soon. I sent you a pm.

Bill, The VIN tells you how it was built and left the factory. While it is not likely, 10 different engines could have been swapped in between the frame rails in 40 years. Your engine could be a 300 today. The 240 & 300 are the same block with a different rotating set, you can't visually tell the difference.

Were the carbs the same on the two engines too?

Color L : Holly Green

Truck was Special Ordered from the NY Sales Office.

Domestic Special Order=Truck was (most likely) delivered as pictured with special dump body. The DSO code is 6 digits. The first two '13' is the NY office. The last four denote a special order.

The horse emblem on the truck's cowl side panel is from the front fender of a 1966 Ford Country Squire.

Thanks (ND) Bill!

Are the following fender emblems the ones that SHOULD be on the truck?

No, those are for the two wheel drive 66 F250s. The correct emblems for the 66 F250 4x4 look the same as the emblems for 63 and 64 Ford trucks. The correct emblems are different from the 63-64 emblems in that the correct ones have two mounting studs on the top and one on the bottom where the 63-64 emblems have one mounting stud on the top and two on the bottom. The emblems you have will fit the holes in the fender, but they are not correct for the 4x4 250s.

Here is the correct emblem.

Thanks!
I'm feeling much better now; these are the emblems I have on my truck(!)...except the center-plastic on mine is bleached out. (you can see in the 2nd album in my gallery). I was thinking I had the WRONG emblems...and was starting to bid on a pair on ebay (photo is what I posted). THANKFULLY someone outbid me...and I let 'em win after hearing your info. So thanks for saving me money.

Now I can blow the money I saved on some other thing for my truck.
