Build Sheets

For many years, Ford attached a copy of the original build sheet underneath the right side of seat bottom cushion.

Today, there may be nothing remaining...but you never know!

Ford began doing this in the 1950's.

As in per vehicle ? like the sticker on the window these days or ? I've only heard that term for engines.

NumberDummy 12-28-2006 09:03 AM

Not a copy of the window sticker

Whatever the original build configuration was and whatever equipment was added at the factory went on those sheets. Other info is assembly plant and build dates, etc.

Welcome to FTE

You dug up an ancient thread to ask this question. The info will be found here:

The 1964/72 FORD TRUCK PARTS CATALOG is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for about $22.00.

Since you seem to have a 1967/72, you should ask questions in the 1967/72 forum. This is the 1961/66 forum.

Did y'all know that our very own NumberDummy has only started 5 threads! For some reason I find that interesting...

camperspecial65 07-10-2010 02:48 AM

why is that...people ask for parts and availability of them and he responds to them as best as he is able to.

ya I know he posts a lot, and we're all very grateful and thankful for that, I just find it amusing that a man who has 30,XXX posts in his time on the site has only started 5 threads, idk, just amuses me.

Hi Bill/NumberDummy,

So I found FTE via google and I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about my 66 Bronco vin plate. So the 2nd line of the vin plate says 092/wheel base, there's no color code, U150/wagon, and 798 for body style.

Do you have any idea what 798 means? I think my Bronco was a special order.

Also, on the 3rd line of the vin plate it reads 712765. I know 71=Los Angeles.

Do you know what the 2765 means?

Please respond, thanks!
Chris

PS I ordered a free build sheet from Ford but they called my back today asking me for more info to complete the build sheet. C-

I know this thread is from july but would the build sheet be attached under the seat to the springs or.......m

taipeichris 10-07-2010 06:31 PM

Ha, I wish I had the factory build sheet but my paper work only goes into the 90's from POs.

camperspecial65 10-07-2010 10:24 PM

71 is the DSO...where the original selling dealer ordered it from..Los Angeles...the 2765 is its unique order number...092 on the wheelbase is its wheelbase....92 inches...no color code...that would mean a special order color...thus the 6 digits in the DSO location...this was NOT bought off the lot...U150 is a U100 model...the 100 is its load rating at which I wasnt able to find anything referencing Broncos load capabilities. The U is Ford series designation for Bronco...like F and C and so on are designations for conventional cab and cab over model trucks respectively.

The 798 body style is the interior trim code(7) and the body type code(98)

The 7 decodes as:Light Silver Mink Match Stick Vinyl & Light Silver Mink Crinkle Vinyl.
98 decodes as: Long roof(wagon)

All Broncos 1966 thru 1972 were assembled at Michigan Truck which is code L in the VIN

If you post the rest of the info, I can decode it for you. This Bronco information is in the 1965-1972 Ford CAR Master Parts Catalog located at the tail end of the general information section(pages 40-44) and the Soft Trim Section in the 1966 model year section, page A13

Hi cs65,

Thank you for offering to decode my vin plate. So I was on the phone with Ford attempting to get a build sheet out of them and they couldn't figure out my vin plate.

After searching online for a good hour I decoded most of it but I'm not 100% on a few things.

Ultimately I'd like to know all the vin info, where is was 1st sold at, an original sales price, and previous owners names. Maybe I'd contact the dealer to get a copy of the bill of sale, I doubt they'd have it but who knows? The previous owner wasn't much help.

Anyway, below is what I've got so far.

Vin Plate:

1. VIN: U15NL864586
U15=Wagon N=289 L=Michigan 864586=May 1966

2.092 [No Color Code] U150 798 C B8
092=92inch wheel base U150=Wagon 798=??? C=3 speed B8=3.50 LS

3. 712765
71=Los Angeles 2765=???

Please respond when you've got time.

Thanks,
Chris

PS The Bronco was red from the factory and a Bronco shop thought the "798" was bucket seats, bulk head, deleted rear seat.

taipeichris 10-10-2010 01:03 PM

Any luck decoding the special order code?
