Any engineers? I passed the FE exam...
 

I took my Fundamentals of Engineering exam in October, and just found out today that I passed.

I hate to toot my own horn, but this is a hell of an accomplishment for me, and I couldn't be happier! :-X20 :-drink :-jammin :D

It's the first step to getting your Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.

As I stand now, I am an Engineer in training (EIT). After a period of 5 years working under a P.E., I can sit for my P.E. exam, which is specific to my field of expertise. In my case, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.

Congratulations. I am a P.E. in the enviornmental engineering field. I know the feeling of getting that letter. Just wait until you get the next one.

Congrats :-X22 I sit for mine in Civil Engineering this spring. Did you do any preperation for the test other than your classes or...? NCEES has study guides and I know you can get the "equations book" in advance. I've been told to get familiar with the equations book in advance.

I passed mine back in 00, but have never sat for the PE exam. They say most EE's don't need it, and few pass the FE exam. I took it for "fun", didn't study, and some how passed.

Congrats, that's a pretty good accomplishment. Hell, I'm still trying to just get my Bachelor's in Mechanical.

I passed the FE about a year ago for Civil Engineering. With the job I have now I really don't do specific Civil engineering work though so I am not sure when I will be ready for the PE. I will either take study classes or wait until my next career.

You took the test in October, and are just finding out the results now? Damn, they sure grade slow.

Passed my Chemical Engineering FE back in '88. Never took the PE, haven't needed it, but maybe it polishes up the resume.

If you ever design submarines, put some extra space around the condensers & pumps, and make the bunks 6'6", okay? Just in case they draft me.

Congrats, I was going to take the FE exam but I was walking to get my cashiers check to pay for it and passed a bar. Needless to say I didn't have enough money by the time I made it to the bank. That was about 6 years ago now, I've thought about going and taking both the FE and PE because my company will give me a nice bonus if I do, but I don't know if I remember how to study anymore.

And as far as taking a long time to grade the test that's nothing. I took the MENSA application test in 2003 and just got my membership invitation a couple of months ago. Three years to grade that one I guess:)

At my school, (University of New Orleans), it was required that we take a prep class, and at least attempt to pass the FE. The class was helpful, but I got most of my help from doing hundreds of problems on my own.

Yeah, It was well advertised that it would take at least 6 weeks for the results to go out. They have to study the results to set the grading scale. Takes a little while.

Question, though...it takes two to three months to find out whether you passed or not? What's with that? Seems you oughtta be able to get a cup of coffee, go back in 15 minutes, and know your score.

That's like some of these civil service jobs...you take the exam and maybe get hired two years later? Never understood how that system operates successfully alongside a much more immediate free market system.

Oh, that curve grading really sux. I never understood how an answer could be more "right" or more "wrong" according to how all the others answered...seems like some fancy way o' cheatin' to me, but what do I know, I never finished college either!

I thought it was a long time, as well. But apparently there is more to grading it than sending the scantron sheet through a reader. :-X15
