F-130?!?

Hi,

My dad just picked up a beautiful '76 2wd F-150. One interesting thing however is while it says "F-150" on the body, there are eight lugs on the wheels and the GVWR indicates that its a 3/4 ton. Also, under "type" on the door jamb sticker it says "F130", and the vin is F13YRD03847 which would also seem to indicate and F-130, right?? Just curious if anyone out there can help us unravel this mystery. Thanks in advance!

It may not be the original body parts. Maybe someone changed the fenders from an F 150 or F 100? If it is a 76 it should have the emblems on the fenders. In 77 they put them on the cowl. At least that is what I have observed over the years. Have been known to be wrong though.

Thanks for the quick response. I like the theory, but on close inspection everything seems to be very original (lts got less than 100k miles on it), and the emblems are on the fenders so I guess it passes that test. Any other ideas?

Built on April 1st, perhaps? :-D

This is what I also got when I plugged the VIN into the online decoder... But there's no question that the VIN is accurate. I'm thinking the "F13" in the beginning indicates that its not a standard model. My dad seems to think the disparity between the 1/2 ton designation and the 3/4 ton build might have something to do with heavy duty trucks being taxed differently or having different emissions standards in California (its original location).

A 76 OEM service manual may show the F13 code but my 77 does not. There were a few oddball codes over the years.

You could always send your code into Ford. Check the Read First: FAQ thread at the top of the 73-9 forum for build sheet info.

The OEM 76 Ford Shop manual only shows 2 codes for a 76 F150.

Pickup codes
F150 - 6050 lbs
F151 - 6200 lbs

Chassis Cab codes

F190 -6050 lbs
F191 -6250 lbs

Your consecutive number makes it a August 1976 truck (within the last 20,000 made)

Well, how's this for you? I have all of the original papers that came with my truck when it was bought new. The window sticker says "F-140" plain as day. And so does some of the paper-work from the dealer. Anyone have any clue on that?

Mil1ion 12-23-2006 01:11 PM

F140 however is a good code number ...it is a body code to GVWR

Body code F140 - desginates an F150 4x4 with a 6050 lbs GVWR

michaelbarry 12-23-2006 02:04 PM

I knew it was a code number...but it says it on the "Model" on the original papers and stuff.

Must be a typo ;)

Like the farmer once said: Manure happens.

The DSO number will tell where the truck went after it left San Jose...If the DSO is: 71...it went to LA; 72...it went to SF; 73...it went to SLC; 74...it went to Seattle, etc.

DSO Has two meanings: District Sales Office (two number code) or Domestic Special Order (a series of 4 or more numbers).

If the truck was special..the DSO will have the series of 4 or more numbers.

Edit: error corrected.

I like the built on April 1st idea :o

Here is the 76-77 Rating plate and VEH Ident sticker/label.

Please show me where it says F130.
