Does anyone know the true factory horsepower and torque ratings for a 351W?
 

We just recently put a rebuilt 351W in my 85 F150 4x4. It is 1979 model and was rebuilt to factory specs. Can anyone provide me with the factory horsepower and torque ratings for this model Windsor? Thanks a bunch.

As installed in Ford Pickups...

NET HP 156 @ 3200 RPM

NET TORQUE 262 ft-lbs @ 2200RPM

Net HP ratings are relative to weight of vehicle and might vary slightly.

A 79 351W is going to be out of a car, and probably have even less power than the specs listed above for an 82-84 2bbl truck engine... The 351W was not installed in trucks until 1982.
Now, if it was re-built to 85 specs with a 4bbl on top, that's a different story again.

Aren't Econolines considered trucks?

351W first offered in Econolines in 1975.

My reference came from the 1979 Econoline 351W.

The passenger car/truck specs are nearly identical in 1979.

The key terminology is

F-series

vs

E-series

No 351W's in F-series trucks until 1982

Quite true Sir, but Ford0625 said the engine was from 1979...he didn't say what the engine came from. I looked at both the Econoline and LTD specs, which are similar in 1979, so I went with the E.

My mistake: I should have said..."as installed in Ford vans...."

Hey Number Dummy, thanks for the input. The engine is indeed a Windsor, a 1979 2V originally out of a car probably a LTD. It has a lot of power so the numbers are disappointing and makes me wonder if they were somehow underrated in the late 70's and early 80's due to emissions, etc. I can be idling, and feathering the gas and it will rock side to side as does my 65 F250 with a 390. It doesn't have near that much torque but it seems to do great for what it is. Thanks again for your input.
