2006 6.0L Diesel Problems

Hey out there need to know some information about this new 6.0L Engine. I have a 2006 F-350 with 53,000 miles on it and just two and half weeks ago I blew the head gaskets and now I have something else wrong that might be related to the fuel injectors or something awaiting an answer from my service man. He says I should run from the 6.0L engine and wait till the 6.4L comes out or go back to the 7.3 in an older truck. He says that they are seeing lots of engine issues with injectors and head gaskets and sensors being blown because the engine has been over done for it's ability. What is the pulse out there in the Ford nation. Is this something that is being seen alot. I visited other dealerships and their sevice areas and they all stated the same thing that they are seeing an overwhelming amount of engine work on these new 6.0L engines for the F series diesels.

No problems what so ever

My feelings are that maybe 1 in 20 have problems and are the most vocal. I have a 6.0 and have 5 friends that have a 6.0 and not one of us have had a problem.

I think they just want to sell you a 2008 6.4 PS.

Is the truck stock or tuned? Any other mods to mention?

I have an '06 6.0 and had to have my head gaskets replaced at 10K miles after towing a 13K trailer 4000 miles to Colorado and back. They got it fixed though in nine days under warranty and have had zero problems since. Even had Blackstone labs check my oil and it zero antifreeze in it so al is good. Also, the dealer said that they have had several '05 have the head gasket problem but only had a couple of the '06's. I would stay away from the 6.4 for at least a year and wait on some bugs to get found and corrected. I love my PSD!

Wonder how all these 6.0 trucks are gonna hold up when the warranties expire (over 100K).

Probably wise advice. Let other people find the bugs in the engine. :-X22

6.0 Ford

My 2 cents worth, the 6.0 was not one of Fords best engine combinations. Ford points fingers at International, says its thier engine, International points to Ford and says its thier electronics. I have one with 35000 miles on it, a 2004 F-350. Basically it has done well, built in Jan. 2004. It has been in the shop 11 times, mostly Dealer oversites. All has been oil leaks. The rear main seal, sensor seals and oil pump seals. One EGR valve. I feel like it is fixed now. Most Dealers, in my opinion, repair by replacing parts, working toward whatever stops the complaint. It is sad to watch, as Ford has to pick up the tab, which comes back to you and I.Ford will be in a position to stop that problem, by requiring mechanics to be qualified by Ford, and tie it with the dealers cost of new vehicles.I can't think of any other way to keep some control over mechanics repairs.
My suggestion, I agree with one of the Gentlemans suggestion, I would wait and let Ford get the "bugs out". The new engine will have twin turbos, and more Emission controls. The proof will be in the pudding................Travel

The 6.0 was and is Fords headache and debacle. Plain and simple. They rushed it to market to placate their buyers with more torque, h.p. etc. It was a flop with too many warranty claims. You can't fix what is poorly engineered or software can't fix their hardware problems unless they detune the motor by 100 h.p. What happened to the guys who lost their "split shot" injection or whatever the term was? They have tried how many reflashes...10? The reflashes took away what the motor was promised to deliver.

The 6.4 had better be out 2 years before I would consider it. You're the guinea pig if you buy a new one. Who wants to pay 40K+ and still be the G.Pig?

When I read some of this stuff I have to think either I am one lucky sob to have almost 30,000 trouble free miles or I just haven't worked it hard enough yet. (2004 F250 Crew, 4x4)

my 06 F250 6.0 19,5K not a problem yet. You can bet your sweet butt I'll be getting an ESP from discountfordparts for the tranny and the differentials.

For what it is worth I know of one VT365 which is a derated version of the 6.0. this engine has over 300,000K miles and is still going strong. However it is a 03 model and has had all the common problems with a 6.0. I think it is a strong engine that will give good life but has had some issues that for the most part have been worked out. But with any mass made parts always a chance of getting a bad one. I am thankful that mine has given me no problems and I wish you the best of luck getting your back on the road.
