73-79 F-150 Estimated Curb Weight
I was reading an article a few minutes ago on the net that stated the new standard cab/short box 4x4 F-150's have a curb weight of ~5,200lbs.
That got me curious of how much things have actually changed... What is the estimated curb weight of a 4x4 73-79 F-150? Let's see how much weight they've took off in 30 years. :) Nightrain |
Have no ref for curb weight, but GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) on 1979 F-150's was between 6,050 to 6,400 pounds. My ref has no breakdown on 4x2 opposed to 4x4.

Not sure about my curb weight, but my GVWR is 7,700 lbs.

I'd say ....About 4200 lbs with both fuel tanks filled
|
Doesn't seem like they've changed a whole heck of alot, then.
I figured at least 5,200-5,500lbs., but I guess I was pushing it. :) Thanks for the figures! Nightrain |
I know I have a 250 but I ran across the scales after emptying my bed at a salvage yard and it was about 5,200 lbs. But like I said my is a heavy duty F-250

Hmm,
My truck was weighed by the previous owner in order to get the current DMV fees, and it weighed 4760 with tanks empty. This is a F250 with 460 C6 and Dana 70 rear end (1976) 8 bolt axles, and gvwr of 8000. Jim |
my 1979 f-150 with 3inch bodylift and 35's (whitespoke steel rims) weighs 4600 with quarter tank of gas in it. Also my 78 f-20 strait cab long bed weighs 4900 with 1/2 tank of gas. I know this because i work 2nd shift at a stone quarry and i weighed both of the trucks.

My 77 F150 4X4 short box with 460 C-6 weighed in at 5080 lbs. The title said it weighed 5100 lbs. In Michigan if your truck weighs over 5000 lbs. it is considered a comercial vehicle and the cost of plates for a year is almost double of that of a non-comercial vehicle. So, when I went to get tags for it and the Sec of state informed me of this I told them I didn't think it weighed that much, because I have another 77 short box that is the same (460 C-6 etc...) and the title said it weighed 4575 lbs. They told me to go get the truck weighed and bring them a certified receipt from the scale and they changed the title weight based on this. I took it home removed the rear bumper, tail gate, one of the dual batteries, and made sure the fuel tank was low. It weighed in at 4870 lbs. and ran out of gas sitting on the scales. ( I guess that was about as low as I could get it.) Took the certified scale receipt back to them and they issued me a new title for that weight. -Ed

Heavy trucks....my 73 lwb, 302, auto c4, 4x2 weighs 3900# unloaded.

We weighed a 1979 F-250 4x4 with a 100lb weight bracket on front and it weighed 5200. And we weighed a 1997 F-150, 4x4 short bed and it weighed more than the 250 long bed at 5350. More like how much weight have they added not lost. Just look at the Mustangs too, heavier with every body change since 1979. An 07 Shelby weighs almost 1000lbs more than a 1993 notch.

Man!!
I had figured these trucks would weigh a ton of bricks more than a new F-150. Geeze!! Nightrain |
I'm not sure where the newer trucks gained the weight though? They lost a lot of metal and gained many plastic parts... so what weighs more?
Chevy is the same way - the newer trucks weigh more than comparable model older trucks. |
