A Question about my beast
I have a question about my 1979 Ford F150 and I was wondering
if anyone can help. The truck has a 360 out of a 1973 F250 and I was wondering if I still needed a cataitic converter sense I have an older motor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
well...i duno about where you are but here in oklahoma, if its built 79 and later, no matter what engine, you gotta have em

This is a state related question regarding emissions laws.
Check the state laws regarding the necessary equipment. If there isn't an emission law that one must pass or is exempt from, then NO you don;t need a CATALYTIC Convertor. Also please put the actual topic in the title ie: Cats required in Missouri ? You can go to the Missouri chapter or ask a Moderator to move this thread there. |
I found this on www.gatewaycleanair.com
Vehicle Model Year Exemptions: Vehicles 26 years and older are exempted from the emissions testing requirement. In 2006, the program tests most even year vehicles 1982 and newer, as well as vehicles undergoing a title change model years 1981 and newer. I would say you don't need it because you don't have to pass an emissions test. |
If you just wanted to keep your truck original, I've always believed that changing the motor didn't matter, the law deals with the truck, not the components. But they are right, it probably doesn't matter.

correct me if im wrong but if your truck is a diesel u wouldnt have to worry about a cat?

my 79 doesn't have a cat. and passed it's inspection. No emissions test here.
