4.10s or 4.11s gears??
did stock f 250s from 96 come with 4.10 gears or 4.11s?sorry i forgot just checking on something thanks......

they are essentially the same. the differet air pressure in your tires make more of a difference than 1/1ooths of an inch differnce in gears!
also, usually front axles have a slightly deeper gear than the rear. example... front D60 has 4.11's and the rear has 4.10's -cutts- |
really i didnt know that guess i orderd the wrong gears then tHey sent me 4.10s for my dana 60 front and 4 10s for the ford sterling 10.25.ill call ford in the AM and see what they say.thanks for the info

Your truck will not know the difference between 4.10's, 4.11's, 4.09's, whatever. For all intents and purposes they are all the same. You don't really run ito an issue until you try something like running 3.73's in one axle and 4.11's in another.
For a D44/9" combo ford calls 4.09's and 4.11's a matched set from the factory. A D44/8.8 4.09's and 4.10's are a matched set. All they have to be is close (within about 5%) Justin |
yea, I've got a truck w/ a 3.55 9" in the rear, and 3.54 D44 in the front, they did that from the factory to help with driveline windup.....it really makes no difference in the world.....I've even run a bigger split than that...I forgot what it was exactly, but it was a 16% difference, and as long as I never hit the tar w/ it, it was fine!....

it's good enough for pavement as long as there is no more than 1% difference between front and rear... from what I've read

i've heard of all the way up to 5% diff. as long as it's not full time 4x4.

I know that a .01 gear difference is what they all do from the factory, so I would imagine that should be fine for on the road, I'm pretty sure that's why they do that, so you don't have driveline-windup as they call it, on the road.....

no, it has nothing to do w/ that, they can make a gear set w/ however many teeth they desire, BUT, the factory makes the front end w/ a .01 taller gear, to prevent driveline windup on the road.

they make them different to prevent driveline bind? that doesn't make much sense.
The newer trucks all have the same front and rear. Plus there is no reason to worry about drive line bind on the road unless you're using 4x4.. and you only use that in less than optimal conditions, which generally allow the tires to slip. |
They have different ratios front and rear due to the ring and pinion sizing, and in some cases, different axle manufacturers front and rear(Ford half tons for example.) You will find 3/4 and 1 tons with both diffs by the same manufacturer, with the same ratio front and rear. Heck, I know that 80-83 or so F150/BKO 4x4's with 9" in the rear with 3.00 or 3.50 gears came with matching 3.00 or 3.50 gears up front... Just check the Dana expert if you don't believe me.
