84' 5.0 in 53' update
I got to play around with my 5.0 84' that is going into my 53' today and I was very surprised at the power. I guess that someone has been in this badboy cause it smoked the tires and ran very well. Both engine and tranny hooked up good. I said this to get to a question:
Does anyone know where I can get a wiring harness for a swap? Or where I might start looking? Also has anyone put a steel bottom in there bed something like a diamond plate or something that coould be rhino lined? I am looking for something to be a daily driver and can't see spending the time and money on the wood when it's just gonna rott and get scratched... any ideas? Wade |
I used plywood and covered it in Herculiner. I have driven it for a year and like it a lot. It is very utilitarian and tough. I think it looks good, too.

I like your ideas on the bed. Did you use 3/4 " marine type plywood?
|
Yes. 3/4 x 48 x 96, finished both sides. Cut the length to 6'-6". The bed is 49" wide, but the 48" sheet works fine.

Wade,
I'm in the process of of installing the bedfloor out of a 2005 GMC in my 49. I managed to scrounge up a 2005 GMC 8' box that had smashed bedsides from a 5th wheel trailer that came off the hitch. My plan is to cut it down to size and drop it between my bedsides. Hopefully I'll get it in there this winter. There are numerous manufacturers that make complete wiring harnesses. I went with the EZ Wiring 21 circuit harness in mine. You will probably have to make your own engine harness. Painless Wiring might make an engine harness for your engine. Good luck with the swap Bobby |
