Ready to tow?
Hi All,
Would It be wise to use my 06' 5.4 lariat w/tow package to tow with under 1,000 mile on the odometer? I'll be going about 900 miles each way. I'll be pulling a car hualer with a old bug on board. I'm just worried that I have not broke in the motor yet? Any thoughts? |
Check your owner's manual - The F-250's with the 5.4 say 500 miles before towing.

You should not tow for the first 500 miles. That is so the differential gears can break in and set. Beyond that, there should be no problem.

I just bought an 06 5.4L and the dealer told me not to tow until I reached 1000 miles. The book says 500. There was another person at the dealership (14 yr employee) that told me not to tow until 1000 miles..

If you want to err on the side of caution, go for the 1000. |
If you have over 500 miles on it I would not worry. In fact I wouldn't worry at all. Doesn't sound like you will be loading it to capacity so you should be fine.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll get to 1,000 miles first to be on the safe side. Should I go ahead and get the oil changed before the trip or just wait til after?
