First off,let me commend you and BW56 for wanting to undertake these big projects. This is the type of thing that isn't for the novice or faint-of-heart!
It requires a better than average knowledge of theory and electronics.

I would recommend having a wiring diagram of the vehicle the engine was taken from(most of the later ones are avaible on CD/DVDs)having the entire vehicle or access to it until you finish the swap. There are so many sensors, relays, etc.that will be needed and the newer the engine the worse it gets. Also a buddy who is a Ford tech or someone whos does fleet work and works on late model fords would also be a big help.

I remember talking to a real nice guy from NC at Knoxville that had the 52 with the supercharged Lightening DOHC in it,he told me it cost him $1500 dollars to wire his truck and to get everything right.Good luck guys,if there is anything I can help you with, just ask.

Hi Bigwindow56,

I am putting the 2V 4.6 out of a Mustang GT into my 56. I am using the manual 5 speed Tremec gearbox too. I made the engine and Trans mounts myself. There are a few pics in my gallery and more on my site.

If you need any more info, just let me know I have a lot more photos that I have taken but not uploaded. I havent quite worked out the ecu/ecm wiring yet. I have all of the engine loom and I have an ECU but I am missing the bit of the loom from the firewall to ECU.

I am considering building a Megasquirt ECU to replace the stock item, as all I have read so far seems to indicate that the anti theft system in the stock ECU will need to be bypassed to make it work correctly and the aftermarket chips that I have found that do this seem to be more expensive than building a megasquirt.

Keith,

Interested to hear how you are getting on with the engine wiring.

Cheers
Lee

I am currently setting up a 5.0L fuel injected Mustang engine in my 1953 backed by a tremec 5 speed.

Was wondering how you guys are setting up the clutch on the tranny?

I have a 5.4 Lightning motor/trans I plan to put in my 56 but not that far along yet. I have found two sources for aftermarket harnesses so far: The Detail Zone in Wilmington, DE and Street & Performance in Mena, AR. Both quoted in the $1200 range for a full custom harness. Let me know if you find a better deal. Good luck.

I have a 5.4 Lightning motor/trans in my Lightning! Lol.

Did you try Windsor Fox?

Thanks for the tip deebee53. I'll give them a call.

This is funny, welll at least to me, I just posted a similar question in the mod motor forum a couple days ago. I have 2 mod motors, a 2000 lightning and a 93 MVIII motor and trans. I saw LEckart mentioned the Detail Zone and after talking to Scott today I am going that route. He was very knowledgable and they have done many cars and trucks. He quoted me $850 for the lightning harness but I'm using a c-4 with a gearvendor overdrive so that is a little less wiring. The way I look at it is that he sends you the harness done and ready to plug in, I don't have to sit down and try to figure out which wires I need and which ones I don't and it will plug in. Then I talked to Matt at Perfomance-Evolution and he can take care of the chip programming to bypass the the security and the things you don't need using the factory computer. I love all this because I want sequential firing instead of batch firing. the # to Detail Zone is toll free 877-968-7842 or the site is thedetailzone.com Performance-Evolution 302-449-3200 Hope this helps some one else also.

I'm re-wiring my whole truck due to the fact that some wires look original and it has glass fuses.

I seperated the Mustang fuse box from the main harness and started weeding out wires so I can use the color coded ones from the harness. It is alot of work, thats for sure.

For the guys running Lightning engines, there are a few tuners out there that can dyno or email tune you to make some nice power. Woodbine Motorsports, Johnny Lightning Performance, RWTD, Amazon, and JDM are a few. Check the Lightning pages here or nloc.net for more info. Also, do yourselves a favor and get a 4 or 6 lb. lower pulley and a good tune.
