390 valve springs

Ive spotted a cam Id like for my 390. Its a Crane energizer 266 with .513" lift. Does any one know if the stock valve springs can handle that much lift? Thanks

FTE has a FE engine forum for 390 engine questions.

I would say yes they would, but you might not have enough spring pressure at high rpms. Can cause the valves to flutter or miss. If it where my motor I would call Crane and tell them the cam you are buying and they will give you the part numbers for the exact springs for that cam. They can give you the part numbers for the locks, retainers, etc.... if you need that stuff to. You are not talking about that much more money to go ahead and do it right the first time.

JMO!!!

I agree with bear. The stock springs will work up to the rpm limit of them. .513" lift is beyond stock and most likely the engine will have the capability to go to higher rpm's than the stock springs will go...the best option is to let crane tell you what springs to use.

Good Luck!

If your stock springs and Valvetrain components are in real good shape? and not worn out? you shouldnt have any problem running a cam up to .550" lift.. (IF) all the parts are in good order.. JMO....
