factory cb radio
hello
i have a factory cb, and i will instal it in the pickup.['78 supercab] i don't know what the exact location is. i don't know where i can conect it, i can't find a conector that fits on these. it's a 4 point conector with a yellow/black ,lightblue/brown wire end two thin wires lightblue/red and darkblue/red. did anyone know what is the +/- and witch are for the speaker? sorry for my english, i com from the netherlands. andre lier |
The Combo Radio/CB radios mounted in different places in different years .

yes that is the cb radio.
there is a big metal box with a 10 ft wire that go's to the conector for the mic and there is the 4point conector. andre lier |
Okay, the Box goes behind the seat and the cord that hooks to the microphone goes under the carpet to mount to dash. then the mic cord plug in,like you see in the picture.
The antenna cable would then hook-up to the box and that cable would feed to where you mount the antenna (s) Do you have a digital camera to take a picture and post it for me ? |

The Cb was located on, or in the center console for Buckets. On the 1979 ford wiring diagram, I'll provide the connector #s for reference if you have a Ford wiring diagram handy. the numbers will not be located on the truck itself. The Yellow/Black wire that hooks power to the factory Radio, is where the power to the CB comes from. ------------ On trucks without the CB option, the radio plugs into the main harness radio connector. (Connector-506 or 506A) ------------ On trucks with the CB Option, but without the stereo radio... #1: A harness extention hooks to the main harness radio connection (C-506-A). From there it goes to the radio connector (C-506) where another yellow/black wire splits off from that connector. #2: Follow that yellow/black wire and you will come to another connector (C-530) where another harness extention plugs in. From Connector (C-530) one wire goes to the CB Reciever/Transmitter Radio. at connection #(C-532). The other wire goes to the CB Radio microphone. The speaker is connected into the radio speaker harness that goes to the dash. ========= On trucks with the AM-FM stereo, and CB. #1: A harness extention hooks to the main harness radio connection (C-506-A). From there it goes to the radio connector (C-530) where another yellow/black wire splits off from that connector. #2 The Radio connects to this Connector (C-530) while the other goes to a C/B radio suppression choke, that's spliced in (Splice #503 (S-503) ) After the splice (S-503), the wire changes color to black goes through the choke, and hooks to another harness extention at connector (C-530). #3: From Connector (C-530) the wire changes back to yellow/black and splits off. One wire goes to the CB Reciever/Transmitter Radio. at connection #(C-532). The other wire goes to the CB Radio microphone. The Cb Radio is hooked to the Center speaker located inside the dash. and is seperate and not hooked into the door speakers. ---------------- Hope this helps. |

i have a AM/FM stereo radio,butthats not the same connector if on the cb wire.

thats the metal box and the am/fm radio is the same as on the pic you shown in your first reply. if y remove the 4point connector, can i put the yellow cable's to the + and the blue at the -?. the thin wire's are for the speaker?. in your third reply they said the cb is under the driversseat. mounted on the floor? and the wire? onder the carpet? andre |
Can you read of any Ford label info on that radio box?
If so please post it. Looking for an D7??-?????-? type number It appears from my schematic that the wiring you have on your unit is wrong for the 78/79 truck. Also, did you not get the radio from where the CBbox came from ? From the looks if it you are trying to fit the CBRadio that you got into a AM/FM Stereo that doesn't support that CB Radio box. Your wires show a 4 wire connector with: Blue/Red White (looks like white in the photo) Lt Blue/Red (Radio Light) Yellow/Black (Power) Then the 78/79 also shows ONE yellow/black wire going to the CB Radio box with another 4 wire connector for speakers Brown or Orange (They are smudged letters) looks like BR or OR Black/white One goes to speaker ground The other one goes to speaker + The 1980 CB Radio box shows a bunch of wires (8-9) going to it via that black connector that yours shows. Plus a 4 grey connector to the back of the AM/FM Radio with: Blue/Green Yellow/Black (power) Green/Red Blue/Red (Radio Light) I'll see if I can find a an 1980 CB radio schematic |

According to the wiring schematic Ford had 4 different radios available.
That CB Radio you have that you bougth off Ebay will only work with the special Combination AM/FM MPX stereo CBRadio from a 1980 Ford truck. IMO, If you wanted a CB Radio, you should have just bought a "stand alone" CB Radio . How much did you pay for that set up ? I may be able to help you out. |

80 radio in 78/79 ? I donlt think so but. Good question. Why not just get a Regular CB Radio and mount it under the dash? I am sending you a Private Message about this CB Radio you have. |
It looks like with the info given here, that he may not have the wiring harness extention that goes from the main harness radio power connector, where it splits off, one goes to the cb, and one goes to the music radio.
According to the late 70's wiring diagram, (Mil1ion posted it for me earlier up the thread) for the CB, on a truck with a stereo radio, the CB has an isolated center speaker, that is not hooked into and is isolated from the stereo. On trucks with mono, AM or AM/Fm, there is an interupter placed in the speaker wires from the mono Radio, and the CB and Mono radio share the center speaker. I think he's missing a harness extention. |
