Need vent window help
My vent window on the drivers side dosn't seal off well. lots of air noise at highway speed. The gasket looks good. it seems that the handle that that holds the window shut not only moves up and down but is also sloppy side to side. Is there any way to fix this short of replacing the vent window. Oh yea 1978 f100
Thanks, Jeff |
new handle available
I can't remember right now which vendors sell them, but I have seen a replacement handle set for the wing windows that includes all the springs, bushings and roll pins to make hte wing window seal like new again (as long as the gasket is ok)

A new handle won't fix the slop. You need to replace the piece it attaches to.
It is like a 3/16" half-moon swivel shaft with a valley in it for the spring clevis pin to slide into. I suspect the truck has been broken into at one point. That's when they show to be at their worst. They all go bad eventually. You'll have better luck replacing the entire vent window frame with a better one. |
Dennis, Where is the best place to get a frame

From another truck at a wrecker.
I think I got the Last One from Ford back in 1997.:) |
i never ever open the wing windows in a vehicle.so all of mine are sealed closed with black rtv silicone.they dont leak,or howl. i know most like to use them,i just find them to be a pain.just my opinion.-billy

I just replaced a broken one, it got broken in a break in.
I bent the pin the handle goes on and that made it a tighter fit, almost too tight. But a trick our painter said guys do is to glue I think he said a nickel or quarter where the handle goes against and that tightens them up. So in effect you are shimming it. But my using vise grips and bending the pin where the handle goes really did tighten it up really good. |
