Broke C6...
 

Ok, Somehow, I cracked a chip off of my transmission.
It is where the transmission pan bolts to the tranny, on the back drivers side.

Is there any way this can be fixed, or replace that particular section or the tranny, or is the whole thing crap now?

well, if it's a clean break and the piece can be held in place, I'd try JB weld. I used this stuff on my 203 extension housing(it's also aluminum) since the welders all quoted me $200 or more. It actually worked til I parked the truck 2 years later.

If it's a piece broken off and lost, then I'd guess it's a judgment call on the size of the chip. Be it aluminum weld, goop, jbweld, or gasket sealer, something hopefully works. I dropped my rebuilt c6 from my 79 bronco(the big bell pattern from the 400)when pulling the engine and tranny/tcase, and it pushed in the casing and spiderwebbed the aluminum. It cracked the entire length of the bellhousing part. I junked mine. Good luck.

If your going to fix it, fix it right. You can pay now or ya can pay later. If you can braze and If it's not a big chunck try using alumaloy. Not sure how it's spelled. Or spend the $ and replace it or have it welded by a pro. You'll be happy you did in the long run.

If you decide to replace it, go to a bone yard and buy a crap one, one that the case is good, as you dont care about the rest. clean it up, maybe give it a little paint, then put your tranny parts into it. I am shure you could do that for less then 50 bucks. you will be doing the labor but it wouldnt caust much. Darn site cheeper then welding it. You could spend that money on bands and clutches to put in durring the swap, so your tranny will have some new life to it, and have a better tranny that way.

The piece that broke is long gone I'm sure in a bottomless hole where it broke. It is about the size of a half or silver dollar.

I put some form a gasket to slow the leak down for the time being, but that didn't come close to stoping it.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to go to the junkyard and get a case. The only thing is I know nothing about automatic transmissions, and wouldn't feel comfortable swaping insides.
Any idea how much this would cost me to have a pro do it?

You will have to call your local tranny shops and ask. I can say that I understand your feelings about automatic trannys. I feel the same way, however when I was told $839+ bucks for a rebuild I decided to do it myself. Since parts haven caust me over $300 bucks I know the $500+ dollers was saved. Now graned I am not getting it done as fast as a pro, I am able to take my time, and with a lot of help from the good people in this forum I think I am going to have a good tranny when I am done. (See "One sick C-6".) Stuart1 is going to help me with the reassembly eather tonight or tomarrow, and if interested I might be able to confrence you in to that so you can see what is going on before you tear into one blindly. Just something to think about.
