Makes a lot of sense. We have to use canola oil to lube some of our equipment while on reclaimed sites (in the environmental cleanup biz) so we don't recontaminate well sites that are already clean or aren't dirty.

The canola oil turns into a thick rubbery goo before the week is out. A couple of molecules on the tip of an injector every time it fires could turn into a nasty clog before long.

no need to tell me. i detest canola. i have bought it once and only once for home use.
totally different use but tryed to season a new castiron pan with it. heated it in the oven
removed it after plenty of time to season and cool it turned into a thick sticky goo. ruining the pan
what the hell is a canola anyway what ever it is it is not allowed in my house anymore

soybean oil has worked well for me for over 20K miles. Rapseed oil is best.

It does pay to pay attention to the oil you may pick up at a WVO source.

I thought canola is rapeseed.

Your right it is the same. All I know is there is a guy that runs his Citroën Xantia 1.9 TD, 1995 122.000km on rapseed oil and most of europe runs on rapsed oil if they run SVO or WVO. So I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have to admit I did not read this report in the link.
