i wonder what the warranty will be on this thing.

"The first filters had to be taken off and cleaned at around 80,000 miles. But the filters coming in January for U.S. diesels are designed to last the life of the vehicle without any extraordinary maintenance."

Yeah, I wonder if they will back that up. In any case it is emissions so whatever they make the standard emissions warranty I would think that would be included.

I agree, any EPA mandated emission control items would have to be covered under federal law.

In case of something like this, I would imagine that this would fall under "Major emission-control components" and would fall under the 8/80 warranty.

wow, i sure hope as well as it says it does. No wonder the new 6.4 will need 375hp just to move the truck.

Imagine this thing with the DPF, EGR, CAT and muffler removed...then you gotta get the electronics talking again.

Well, Not sure this will fly with Admin., but I think it is Sticky time for this Particulate Filter info.

The Autoweek artical stated that when backpressure built up the engine will dump more fuel. What will that do to EGT's, will they be to high and cook the turbo?

Well, here in California that probably means mandatory "smog checks" for 08+ diesels. I'm glad I have on 06 (smog exempt).

I wonder how this will effect aftermarket exhaust mods... is it located like a catalytic converter would be, or somewhere else in the exhaust, no point in a 4 inch downpipe if you have a constriction half way down... Has anyone heard if California is going to go to smog every 2 years on diesels like they do on gasoline powered cars.

Does anyone know if all this emmisions crap is going to be tied into the computor. Like on the jeep CDI I had last year it had converters and such under it but they were not tied into the electronics.

2007 is the end of diesel performance as we know it. Particulate Filters and such are tied in to the ECM through all sorts of sensors. For example, the new 6.7 liter Cummins will have over 10,000 ECM parameters. On the Cummins the muffler is removable, but turboback exhaust is a thing of the past. You will not be able to "fool" the ECM with chips, tuners, and other devices of the sort because in short, you will fry the emissions system. If you do remove this equipment, the CEL will be illuminated and there will be no way to shut it off. If they do come up with a tuner, there will be no doubt it will cost big $$$. They would have to have a harness going to every single sensor on the truck. Extra fuel will be injected on the exhaust stroke to keep the Particulate Filter "fired up".



In short, after ULSD motors come out, you will be able to make them loud, but not more powerful

There is a lot of truth to that, except you won't even be able to make it loud. The DPF is soooo resrictive that "@#$!%^! *&^%*$" has desided to eliminate the muffler entirely. NO NEED. Fact is HEAT is the main consern. Exhaust exit temps are VERY VERY HOT during regeneration. Wait till you see the FUNKY exhaust tip used to cool the exhaust.

OH I can't wait for the lawsuits on burning down grasslands caused by the particulate filters. Farmers are exempt from having cats on gas powered trucks because of this (in many states not all by any stretch) so how many fields and wildfires are going to be started by these and with no way to remove them farmers are just not going to be able to drive thier trucks across grassland areas or hayfields or wheat stubble fields because they will cause fires just like the cats did when they first came out.
